The Ukrainian mass media has published these photos of people, who are supposedly combatants in Donetsk and Lughansk, spending some spare time in a botanical exploration of what the local nature can offer farmers.
The Ukrainian Defense Department has published photos of new fortification structures they are erecting these days near Mariupol city. This city was widely rumoured to be the scene of the next major battle last year after Donetsk and Lughansk, but it turned out to be relatively peaceful except for one devastating shelling of the city suburbs and maybe a few other minor incidents. So they are building these structures – not from wood as might be seen here, but from metal boxes
In some branch of the Jewish religion there is a tradition to come to the Ukrainian town of Uman to celebrate the New Year. So each year tens of thousands of the believers arrive. They probably even did it during Soviet times, when the borders were locked, but now, when Ukraine is a separate state and there are no limits on travel, each year more and more people come to celebrate. One of our favorite bloggers, Ilya, has travelled there and taken some photos!
These days in Ukraine they say there is a military drill taking place. It’s a joint forces drill of the Ukraine and American armies, conducted according to NATO standards. Ships, tanks, HUMVEEs etc are there. Take a look, it’s a short posting.
You can see how tall this structure is! Do you wonder what it is? It’s a fence! A Ukrainian businessman, an owner of the company producing mineral fertilizer, has built a forty foot high fence (13 meters) around his villa! Just imagine!
In 1988, two foreign photographers travelled to the USSR on the verge of “Perestroika” and their special topic of interest was Ukraine. So these are the photos they took of what was at the time a part of Soviet Russia, but which is now an independent country. Really colorful shots!
It has been reported that an unnamed dad in Donetsk has given his son a ride to school, on the first day of school, on a tank. Well nobody seemed to care and his classmates joined in to take more photos.

If you live in Europe you probably know this car – Russian LADA NIVA. A cheap 4×4 coupe car with a price tag often three-four times lower than any other SUVs. Its design stays unchanged at most – except some minor changes – since its initial launch in early 1980s. So what this guy made to his NIVA makes it really stand out.
