Tkvarchelskaya power plant is one of the numerous abandoned objects of Abkhazia. Tkvarcheli is a typical mining city with the history that began in the 1930s. They had managed to launch eight mines prior to the war that gave 0,37 million tons of coal by the end of the 80s. These photos mostly show what the power plant is today.

In 1992 the war began. Tkuarchal and Gudauta suffered from the military actions more than others. The city survived the terrible siege that lasted 413 days. Only 12% of the population stayed in Tkuarchal. The power plant was deativated.
