Saving Old Wooden Churches At the Shore of the White Sea The population of a village Nimenga in the Arkhangelsk region is two persons, two dogs, a dozen of cows and a white horse. The village is surrounded by dense blue forests, swamps and roadless terrain. Not so far is the White Sea. But this place forgotten by God is visited by volunteers who do their best to restore old wooden churches of Nimenga. These photos show how they work to restore the beautiful Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour built in the second half of the XIX century. Ivan is a grandson of the last beneficiary of the church in Nimenga Vitaly Popov who was executed by shooting in Arkhangelsk in August 1920. His name is enlisted among New Martyrs of the local metropolitanate. Icon remains Prdinary Russian men – driver, military person, electrician… And they have different beliefs… Docent from Yekaterinburg Yulia is cooking for 20 people.
