In 1968 Soviet schools introduced a new subject – basic military training. Every educational institution got a special classroom with thematic posters, dummy grenades and a military instructor.   1. If you are worried about invasion, it makes sense to include the girls. They did well in the 1940s. I don’t think the US was going to invade, but the experience of Russia/USSR would certainly make worries about that.

  2. Asking young people to carry ans use rifles to defend the homeland with only minimum training in grade school will not work out well for them in the end.
