Paintings of Nastya Cheedukova arouse pleasant nostalgia for childhood years. They illustrate the things so much familiar to Russian contemporaries and they see those things disappearing over the decades. Summer in a village, Soviet households, warm and cosy atmosphere, traditions…  How long will they stay in our memory?

  1. Painting of the ‘drink machines’ is literally a copy of a photo by someone else. How is this not infringement? No credit given either.

  2. Ah, the drink vending machine! When I first went to USSR from US in 1967 and saw this, I stood on the street with my mouth open from shock. No can – no bottle – no paper cup – just one incredibly thick drinking glass. You rinsed the glass under a water spout, put in your two (?) Kopeks to fill the glass with a fruit drink and then drank as fast as you could because three people were waiting to use the same glass!
These were the people we were terrified of because they were getting so far ahead of us in space, education, etc. Wow! We could have saved a lot of money if only we had known that the Iron Curtain was made of very cheap cardboard.
