  1. The kitchen was the central place in the house because it was the only place where heat was. These old houses didn’t even have running water or toilet facilities. I was raised in one from 1943 – 1946. There was an outhouse and my Mom raised chickens. We heated that stove with wood and coal if you could get it.

  2. As a child I lived in log cabins from the frontier days of the US. These homes remind me of those. There is an elegance of design in these Russian homes, simplicity, sturdiness, practicality. They radiate the sense of warmth and family, home, in the truest sense of the word. I would happily live in such a house, they are far better than what we build today.
