Many people have seen the ekranoplan from outside but few have had a chance to get inside. This vehicle is something in between an aircraft and a ship. “Lun” is the world biggest ground effect vehicle designed in the USSR in late 70s. Now the ekranoplan as big as a five-storey building is in Derbent, it has been preserved as a museum exhibit. Yuri Urykov, who shared these photos, says he had a real technical ecstasy when he got inside the vehicle. “It has not been used for 20 years, but the filling is almost like new. It smells of oil and kerosene, and many devices and motors are still there. Just like bed sheets and documents”.
Did this thing ever fly?
They dont “fly” in a traditional sense. It is a ground affect vehicle. They skim a few dozen meters in the air. Max height is usually only a a hundred meters or so. The goal is to stay under radar. Read up on Ekranoplanes.
8 engines, which means huge fuel consumption
Sorry
10 engines
your totally wrong ! they were more fuel efficient than a commercial plane use today …. so in short less fuel to carry more weight !

What a strange dinosaur type object. Its value? Almost worthless in my opinion. But it is fun to see.
What a monster!!!Only russians can build something like this!
…Its going to a Museum…
Did this thing ever actually fly?
Masterpiece of engineering!
It’s probably guarded 24/7. Looks like new inside, very good weatherstripping.
