The soft-shelled turtle of the Russian Far East also inhabits China, Japan and other eastern countries. The animal is used in local exotic cuisines but protects itself with strong jaws – if you try to catch it for making soup, you are gonna lose your finger. If you try to grab the turtle from behind, keep in mind that the neck of the animal is long enough to bite you even when you are behind it.
While other turtles have a huge problem to recover their feet when they turn upside down, this one does it perfectly using the long and strong neck.
The neck also helps the turtle to attack pray unexpectedly and breath while in water without coming out completely.
The animal pees through special pores in its throat… And yes, its mouth smells like a public toilet.
It can attack and eat anything – from shell-fish to pigeons, and it does not hesitate to attack even bigger creatures, immediately trying to bite their heads off.
A newborn turtle is only 3 cm long.
The turtle has long strong claws, and the webbed feet allow the soft-shelled turtle to swim very fast.
