Tbilisi is a capital of Georgia and the biggest city of the country. ‘Tbili”, by the way, means “warm”. The city is located between Europe and Asia, in proximity to favourable trade ways. That is why Tbilisi often became an apple of discord for competing empires throughout the history. The rich history of the city is conveyed in the architecture of Tbilisi – medieval, classical, Eastern, modernistic, Stalin’s and present-day ones.
These pictures were taken by Sten-Ake Stenberg, a Swedish photographer who visited the capital of Georgia in October 1976.
