A new big plant of Mercedes-Benz cars production has opened a week ago, on April, 3rd, in the Moscow region, not far from Solnechnogorsk. The plant that occupies 85 is now employing about 1000 workers to make 25 thousand cars annually.
They have already begun making E-class sedans. GLC, GLE and GLS models are going to enter the production soon. All major details, joints and aggregates are exported from Europe and the USA.
The plant opening ceremony was visited by Vladimir Putin himself. He was only an hour late, so the event seems to be important for the government.
Everything begins from body welding. 330 imported parts are joined by spot welding. They do not use Russian steel so far.
On the picture above are a bath for aluminium parts cleaning, 3D-scanner of the quality control system, an andon cord and a smart Siemens cart.
There are no robots here, as it’s not profitable when an output is not very high.
They use robots Kuka only at the final stage of the welding, where they unite roofs, bottoms and sides. Dozens of sensors control the welding accuracy and quality.
All workers, who deal with weld guns, udnergo seven-weeks training abroad.
