The Place of the First Soviet Atomic Bomb Explosion

1

Nuclear test site Semipalatinsky, as a rather lifeless place, was chosen for the first Soviet atomic bomb explosion. It happened in mid 1940s while the last bomb was exploded there nearly thirty years ago. But these ruins remember the time long gone.

Kurchatov – the city that was the center of the test site. It began to lose population after the USSR collapse, so it has many abandoned houses. Nevertheless, Kurchatov is still developing as a large scientific nuclear center.
