  1. Is it the same Piaggio making Vespas? Yes, but is another division of same society.
In 1917, at the height of World War I, Mr. Rinaldo Piaggio converted the company to aeronautical and military productions. Piaggio engages in the production of MAS anti-submarine motorboats, and above all of airplanes and seaplanes, initially built under license from Ansaldo, Macchi, Caproni and Dornier, and subsequently on designs by Piaggio itself; in 1924 the first Jupiter engines and the Dornier Wal aircraft, manufactured under license, will begin to be produced.
Nel 1964 le due divisioni (aeronautica e motociclistica) diventano a tutti gli effetti due aziende indipendenti; la divisione aeronautica prende il nome di IAM Rinaldo Piaggio, che diventerà in seguito Piaggio Aero Industries.
Since 2014 it has assumed the current name of Piaggio Aerospace, after Piaggio Aero Industries was wholly acquired by Mubadala Development Company, sovereign fund of the government of Abu Dhabi.
