In June 1959, there was a Russian (Soviet) expo in New York, where the Soviet country presented their best achievements, and LIFE magazine visited the event and took these photos.
The interior of the event was decorated with fake birch trees.
They presented examples of Russian “fast-constructed” houses that were erected in their thousands during that time to accommodate the influx of people into the cities.
Even Soviet cars (and carpets in the background).
The expo was visited by different sorts of American people. They were wondering what was going on behind the iron curtain.
The hall was decorated with Soviet propaganda as well as Lenin portraits and quotes.
Soviet fur coats were causing envy in some New York ladies hearts.

Some examples of older Russian art were also displayed there.
