The most famous volcano on Iturup island of Kurill islands on the Eastern part of Russia, next to Japan. Because of the volcano there are plenty of hot springs on the island. Russian traveller Sergey visited the place and made some photos.
There are a few of the hot springs on the island. One of the place even got a geo-thermal power station but it got broken fast and servicing it on a distant island was hard. So it stays broken now.
This is the station building.
It’s still getting all heat but its not being converted into electricity now.
Not far away from a station there are blue argile clay deposits. This blue clay is often used in cosmetology and other healthy life products so its sort of valuable and rare.
You can see how it looks like in its natural form.
The guards of the station made themselves a hot tub so that not to be bored around.
Trash cans here on the island are made of old fishermen floats. The orange ones – that hold the nets afloat in the sea.
Here are the hot springs panorama.
You can walk only by certain paths, because here and there there are pits with boiling dirt, temperature above +100 C.
You don’t want to step or fall into them. It would mean instant boil for any human.
Also some mud volcanoes are present around.
It’s in constant boiling state. Dirt is boiling.
Also water is boiling constantly too.
The dirt considered to be very healthy and you have a dipper here to scoop up some dirt and take it with you.
The trees here grow till certain tallness then they look like they were chopped by a huge machete.
Also bamboo grows here. Not very thick, but Sergey says its hard to pass thru its bushes.
And this is a river that has hot springs across its course.
Sergey says that its green waters looks a lot like Yellowstone.
There was no wind and vapor was staying still without movement.
Soft green moss looks like a carpet.
And this is a resort where locals come to spend their leisure time. It has some huts, stairways and easy access to hot springs.
Nice little bridge.
The river length is 4km and it ends with a hot waterfall. It’s eight meter tall and water is constantly +43C running in the waterfall. Probably one of a kind in the world.
There is a bath made inside the waterfall. Water is hot all year round so people bathe here even in winter.
This is the hot waterfall.
