Russian blogger Smit went to see how Russian military scouts, elite Military Intilligence special forces from six different regions of Russia were undergoing elite units training and contest. Here are his photos and the story.
At first scouts had to underpass an airborne landing and then run for fifteen kilometers (10 miles). But the most tricky part is the last mile of this trip. It’s called “scouts path” and is an obstacle course than not anyone is able to pass.
So military intelligence special forces from six Russian regions meet on this path.
Drivers compete as well.
And then the “Scouts path” – an obstacle course consisting of over twenty obstacles on the way, some of them made of concrete, some of wood, metal, stone, broken walls and teared up buildings. Some obstacles are covered in barbed wire.
This course has undeground passages, abandoned sewages. To make it even harder, constant explosions are happening, also smoke and light grenades being thrown unto the fighters.
This is a new course, it was made just one year ago.
The task of snipers and heavy machine gun operators is to cover their friends backs while they go thru the course.
And it’s not that easy at all.
Every fighter has over 20 kg of ammunition on him, including guns, weapons, ammo, etc.
Every region team showed its skills one by one.
This “Path of a scout” obstacle course is new, but the idea is not new. Similar courses were used in Soviet army since World War 2. There is one more type of Soviet army obstacle course its called “Race of heroes”.
Some parts of it are pretty dynamic – hanging ropes, hanging tires to climb etc.
And some are pretty much peaceful looking.
If not to matter the smoke on the background.
Every fighter carries a few grenades with him.
Those are the hanging tires.
Some parts of the course instantly go on fire at random periods of time, the soldiers have to be very cautious on where they go.
First barriers the soldiers passed very fast. Climbed the two meter tall fences, brick walls with broken glass on top.
However later on the soldiers started to show the signs of tiredness.
That’s because heavy outfit and load each soldier was carrying on him.
Some even started dropping their guns.
Some were falling down from the climbing obstacles.
But nevertheless nobody got hurt.
Because this is military intelligence soldiers here train the skills of capturing foreign country military objects.
“All obstacles here imitate the fences and obstacles that NATO countries have”, said the main judge of the contest, Chief commander colonel Makarenko.
“This is the third time we having this contest” he added.
When a soldier was asked if its an easy task to pass it all, he said “not really, our team took 40 minutes to pass it all, some took it more than an hour”.
All soldiers participating are proffesional military intelligence special forces members, read it “James Bonds”.
But some recalled this to be really hard excercise.
