Sochi was (is) a Russian and Soviet most popular resort city. It’s located in sub-tropical climate making it stand out in all Russia. During USSR era when people couldn’t leave the country for the warm resorts of other countries they had to come to the Black Sea towns like Sochi so it was really, really crowded. In 1988 a Belgium photographer visited the place and took some awesome black and white photos of the place. Let’s take a look:
Hope you get the feel of the era! Despite that now Russian people are allowed to travel where they want, Sochi is still very crowded in summers lately – they have appeared new groups of people barred from travelling abroad – lately all police, army and some other govermental workers can’t freely travel so they have to come to Sochi and other Black Sea places, just like during USSR.
