Nazarovskiy open-pit coal mine is situated in the Krasnoyarsk region, in the 1970s it became a ground to test the innovative coal mining technologies. This is where a unique rotor complex SRs(K)-4000 by TARKAF is used, it is the biggest and the most efficient stripping complex in Russia.
Let’s visit the place together with blogger “gelio”.
The coal mine was put into operation in 1951. In 1980s, when brown coal was at highest demand, the output of the mine reached fourteen million tons of coal yearly. Today the output is four million tons.
Coal is covered with a huge layer of rock, they have to excavate up to 70 meters of soil to reach it. Now they apply four methods of stripping – railway, trucks, conveying-bridge and non-transport stripping.

Rotor excavator SRs(k)-4000 with a dumper is working. It does 60% of all work at the mine.
Applying a rotor wheel for stripping (conveying-bridge stripping).
The height of digging is 36 meters!
The boom length of the rotor is 42 meters.
Wheel diameter is sixteen meters!
Twenty four buckets are on the wheel.
There are no such machines in Russia anywhere else.
Annually SRs(k) consumes 7930 kW/h.
Capacity of the machine is 4,000 cubic meters per hour.
The total weight of the complex is 9800 tons – it’s the weight of the Eiffel Tower in Paris!
Travelling speed is 2-6 m/h. Track length – 13 m, width – 4 m.
900 workers are employed at the mine .
Boom length – 195 m!
The machine does not work in winter as snow sticks to the conveying belts and the working body.
Overburden bench is treated by walking drag lines that follow the complex.
There are six of them.
Operator of a drag line.
Boom length – 90 meters.
Bucket capacity – 20 m3.
They used to have even a bigger drag line with a bucket capacity 100 m3.
Finally the machine has reached coal!
There are eighteen buckets on the rotor wheel, each has capacity of 350 litres.
Excavator height is 22,5 m.
The coal will be transported to the local power station.
For nine months of work in 2015 they have mined 2,5 million tons of coal.
Coal reserves of the mine – 210 million tons.
