The Belarus website ‘Onliner’ publishes an interview with their countrywoman Ekaterina – a worldwide Muay Thai fighting champ. She says that her mission is to “break the stereotypes that a fighter should be ugly and man-like”. Some people like the girls more than the stories, so this story should fit both types of audiences. Also, big thanks to Onliner for publishing this!
Ekaterina doesn’t go as “Ekaterina” when she fights on the ring. She goes under the nickname “Barbie”. And who would argue with her choice? She started her Muay Thai lessons when she was 17. She hates when other female fighters try to look man-like. “They cut their hair, they get tatoos, I hate this!” says Yekaterina-the-great.
She says that she has used her skills already to fight back during some street violence – one time a guy attacked her in an empty hallway and tried to suffocate her and would probably have raped her later – she almost passed out at first but later hit him with her elbows and then kicked and kicked again and again and again and then just left, leaving a the figure crouching in pain.
Another time, late at night, a bus driver tried to harass her female friend. She kicked him and in a second he was laying on the floor saying “it was a great mistake to ask you for a date”.
“I know that many of my fighting colleagues often try not to react to offense easily because they are afraid they can injure the offender so much that he becomes disabled for the rest of his life”.
Besides that, the Thai boxing Barbie has finished college and works in the travel business. She also goes to photography school. Also – you have probably wondered if she single or not? No, Yekaterina is already married, for two years now!
She tried to stop her sport career for family, but became very bored. She also says her other friend, also a Thai boxing champ, has three kids and gets back to training as soon as the kids pop out of her – just a couple of months later.
However Yekaterina says that she is not happy with the latest Russian poll results when it’s said that 25% of Russian men are ready to become “house husbands” if their wife has a cool job. “This is totally depressing, real manhood spirit is disappearing!”, says Kate.
Hope you liked both the story and the girl!
