Marines of the Russian Pacific Navy have got new helpers, the newest Russian combat robots called “Platforma-M”. It just arrived for the army and was initially presented in 2013. Think of it as a mini tank that can spy on your enemies, kill them with the onboard machine gun or shoot grenades from its four grenade launching tubes and you get an idea of this machine. Thanks to the awesome blogger Youri who went to the Navy base and took these photos so we can see it too!
Platforma M is a full combat machine used for scouting and finding enemy targets and is also a subtle and small moving vehicle. It can be guided by an operator or move on its own. It can find targets, target them and shoot fully automatically! How scary is this?
It’s covered all over with armored plates. It’s made to be camouflaged on the road or in forests. It can work at night, too.
It was under development for four years.
It was first shown to the public in 2014. It’s a fully Russian developed robot. Its weight is around 800kg – pretty heavy – almost one ton!
It’s dimensions are 160 cm long and 120 cm high.
The operator can control it from a distance of up to 1500 m.
“It’s easy” says the operator. Yeah, like playing a video game.
This robot is used to support the stealthy navy marines groups on their missions. Also it can be used to evacuate the wounded from the battlefield.
It’s armed with a Kalashnikov machine gun, same as on Russian tanks. It has 400 ammo rounds and four grenades. The battery lasts 48 hours.
Now it is official as it has been christened in battle conditions.
