Mikhail and some of his friends went down into the one of the Moscow nuclear shelters prepared for emergency in case someone pushed the Red Button. That is a huge shelter which seats 2,700 people and can also hold cars. It’s over 2,000 square meters in area. Do you want to see what is inside – we can show you thanks to the photos and stories he brought from there.
So here is the entrance. The shelter itself is underground, 6.50 meter deep. Now some parts of the building is used as a warehouse.
Huge hermetically sealing doors.
Just look at how thick they are.
Entering the shelter. As you can see it can host cars and vans.
A map of the local neighborhood with all the shelters marked so that they know where to run to when NATO starts to bomb. Or ISIS.
The commander of the shelter reports on what’s going on.
And those are the employees of the shelter.
And the visitors.
And the medics from a local hospital who are responsible for this shelter.
Those are called “civilian gas masks”
Anti nuclear radiation costumes are in stock here, too.
Those guys are like from a movie.
This gadget is called “a device for radioactive and chemical scouting”. It probably tests the air and says if its safe yet or still not safe after the bombings.
These are the radioactivity meters.
So, if people of the neighborhood are so unfortunate that the NATO bombings begin, they would have to spend their nights in bunk beds like these. They are not very soft but they are safe. However, only 540 beds are here and as it can take up to 2,700 people they would need to sleep in turns as the rest of the space here is for sitting.
A local map.
To me, in this photo they are too serious, like the war has already started and they are doomed.
“A water dispensary”. Stating the ration per person – three liters per person each 24 hours. 18 cubic meters total stored drinking water and 24 cubic meters of “technical” water. It would probably be radioactive water if it’s too close to the surface.
Mikhail says this horrible thing is a medical device to put in someones throat. Yuck.
More civilian gasmasks.
And some more metering devices.
And here are the visitors already fully dressed.
There is a special ventilation system in place that filters radioactive micro dust particles from the air and can also clean the air if biowarfare is used.
Some of its filters.
A storage of different supplies.
Open or close ventilation. Now its opened.
Sinks are covered with cellophane.
These special devices are to control the restrooms. Probably so that they do not get killed when people come to relieve their natural needs.
A map of ventilation (for NATO spies exclusively).
And this is the main power generator. It works on diesel fuel. Mihail says they started it and it works just fine.
This is the set of the things to carry in the car if you want to quickly clean someone from radiation and dust.
And this is the water supply. Water can come from the external water networks (assuming they are still intact and not disrupted) and also from the inner local tanks.
So they have emergency cars inside the shelter to use in case they need to make a quick run to the surface and back.
Mihail says that basically the shelter looked like it’s ready for the emergency and the only thing to keep in mind is to be fast enough to be able to reach it when it is time.
Hope you liked it and big thanks to Mikhail for his photos and the story!
