Good News! A New District Has Been Built!

More and more Russian cities are getting comfortable pedestrianized streets, bicycle paths, parks and recreation zones. It seems we are moving in the right direction and life’s getting better. Until we see something like this…

Good News! A New District Has Been Built!

Until we see a new dwelling district like the one recently built in Samara, Russia.

The pictures are real, and what you see are barracks for 50 000 people. The district has nothing else – no schools, no kindergartens, no public space, no trees or benches. Only these dull countless barracks.

What do they resemble? Maybe the concentration camp “Auschwitz II” (“Birkenau”)? But probably the architecture of the camp looks way more interesting…

Who’s gonna live and grow here?

The scenery is the same for kilometers in any direction…

China builds similar districts, by the way. But they’re actually for those who agree to work all day long for a plate of rice…

Well, it’s OK. In the end they have built millions of square meters of housing! The job’s done.

  1. Horrible. But great example of why I would hate living in the city.
No place to park either, they’ll be fighting for what few parking spaces there are. And it looks like a long haul for groceries too, or anything else.

  2. @Craig Palfrey, you’re vastly misinformed.
There is PLENTY of land out there. There’s only a few locations where they’re so densely populated there’s no more room.
Even if it doubled every couple of hundred years, that means we still have thousands of years before we actually “run out of space”.
But by then, nature will take over and the population would be decimated by disease. Would have already, but man keeps coming to the rescue.

  3. Yep, same shit as in north america. Buy land, shove as many houses in it as possible and make profit……

Makes me sick how greed for money ruins everything

  4. Why not send all the Ukrainian refugees there? It would be better than those temporary locations and allow for more refugees to escape the conflict. I can’t imagine poor kids who have to stay in those camps; this would be so much better for them.

  5. Looks no worse to me than typical USA urban sprawl. At least people in these are close enough to know their neighbours.
