“The robbers of the Cossacks, which were pursued by the Tzar lived here . They were expelled from their villages, that’s why they went away to dug caves and then lived in them. So that to earn for living, they attacked and robbed passing ships. Stepan Razin and his army were among them. There, in the caves it was a staging post, and the robber hid the loot here. ”
The Semeykinskaya Cave is the most mysterious of all the caves of south Don. It has absolutely inexplicable from the standpoint of the religious needs a two hundred meter course with a ceiling height of over two meters and a width of up to five feet, but it is a dead end, leads nowhere and has a single-cell niche in the hall.
It is easy to find the entrance.

The cave is well preserved.Someone says, that it’s construction occurred in the late 19th – early 20th century. One of the initiators of the construction was Terence Belchenko . Local citizens helped him . Terence was a very strong man with a difficult temperament : in 1902 he and his friend had robbed the village’s church. He was arrested and held in prison for three years . After liberation, Terence views on faith have changed dramatically : under the influence of advocacy of political prisoners he has become an atheist. For this reason, the construction of the cave was stopped. It became such an unfinished underground church .
The underground church is very beautiful and mysterious.
And here is the underpass. It’s length is 160 meters and it’s creates acoustic effects. It’s purpose is a secret.
