In 1966 when the Beatles said good-bye to their fans giving the last concert in San-Francisco, far away in Soviet Dagestan they started construction of a hydropower plant which is the largest vaulted dam in Russia today.
Look at the steep slopes of the Caucasus and you will understand that construction of the dam was far from being easy. In 1970 the works were postponed due to an earthquake.
Construction of the dam was finished in 1974 but its industrial usage began in 7 years after that when the necessary infrastructure was available.
The dam is 232,5 m high.
The hydrogenerator is the heart of the HPP. Energy is produced here. The HPP produces as much energy as a small country, for example, Angola, does.
In 2008-2009 the HPP was modernized.
A huge water reservoir.
Numerous trouts have been inhabiting the place since 2006.
The place is very harmonic. Both the objects of nature and human creations look huge and magnificent. And it’s a nice place for a dam. Would you like to fish there?
