Sniper Military Exercise

Sniper Military Exercise

In one of our previous posts we have already told you about shootings they exercise in Alabino. So, this time they invited journalists and photographers to the firing ground again, where a newly formed brigade of snipers exercised in shooting.

The contract soldier has always wanted to be a sniper so he decided to come back to army. He was asked to give some instructions.

Sniper Military Exercise

He told about peculiarities of being a sniper and the Dragunov sniper rifle.

These senior officers watched the briefing attentively.

Meanwhile, some of the snipers began to warm up and prepare for the shooting.

The sniper has to merge into the background no matter what it is. Although they have standartized uniforms, in most cases snipers have to adjust them to the environment to camouflage.

And closed ones.

Sniper Military Exercise

Sometimes snipers have to spend the whole day like this which is very difficult.

Sniper Military Exercise

They use all kinds of lures to draw the attention of the enemy aside.

Sniper Military Exercise

It’s up to the sniper to decide which position to take: near a stump, in a hole, inside of a building, etc.

Sniper Military Exercise

In the open territory they install wire carcasses with grass and sticks attached, which allow them to deploy and wind up fire nests in the shortest time possible.

At one of the exercises, snipers have to make a pointed shot and then quickly change their position to escape something big and loud which may land there.

Sniper Military Exercise

They train to work in pairs. The sniper is often covered by a tommy gunner.

Sniper Military Exercise

All these explosions and smoke are not just for show. They have to make the exercise as real as possible.

There are wounded men on the battlefield. This exercise is aimed to train snipers to administer predoctor help and carry the wouded away from the battlefield.

The duty doctor is watching the exercise.

Sniper Military Exercise

He said that soldiers had something more to learn. For example, they didn’t only have to apply a bandage within 1.2 minutes and carry the victim away from the battlefield, but also they had to be more careful doing this and press themselves to the ground in order to escape the fire.

Sniper Military Exercise

They pay much attention to medical training because snipers, as a rule, work either by themselves or in pair.

Sniper Military Exercise

Snipers take a lot of philological tests and those who do not qualify, may get moved. They plan to finish introducing sniper divisions into land forces by 2016.

Sniper Military Exercise

They lay a special skin under their rifles for a more comfortable shooting.

Sniper Military Exercise

The cannonade is very distracting, so with no relevant training, it’s impossible to fulfill the task.

Sniper Military Exercise

The telescopic sight PSO-1 is intended for shooting at small and camouflaged targets. Although it has its disadvantages, it still has more advantages.

The Dragunov sniper rifle is a semi-automatic sniper rifle/designated marksman rifle chambered in 7.62x54mmR and developed in the Soviet Union. The weapon is fed from a curved box magazine with a 10-round capacity and the cartridges are double-stacked in a checker pattern.

  1. The plan is to introduce special sniper sub-units within each brigade not build up whole brigades of snipers.

Yeesh. When will ER stop using Google translate.

  2. I have a military-grade SVD that I use for hunting. I can easily fit in 14 carts into the magazine, and I’ve seen some force as much as 17 carts.

    • Wish we could get the SVD here in the U.S. I would like one. The Romanian PSL is as close as I can get. I would like a night vision scope for it, I think it would be great for wild hogs at night!

        • For a very short time, back in the 90’s, they imported a few civilian model SVD’s called “Tigers”. Also a few Chinese military NDM 86’s. There are less than 200 Russian military issue SVD’s in the U.S.. I heard that we stopped importing them because of a request by the Russian Government. incidentally, a civilian “Tiger” will cost you 2000-3000 U.S. dollars, the Chinese NDM 86 at least $3000, a real Russian military issue SVD will cost you at least $6000 U.S. dollars. Probably more. In contrast, the Romanian PSL will cost you about $600-$800 dollars, and a case of 880 rounds of standard 7.62×54 ammo cost about $150 dollars the Russian sniper ammo is rare here and very expensive.

12: “Why can’t SVDs be imported from Russia again?”

Russian SVDs and Tigers, and Chinese NDM-86s are banned under completely different agreements with Russia and China. You will not be able to get newly imported Dragunovs now that the “Assault Weapon Ban” has expired. Pres. Clinton banned Chinese exports of arms and ammunition to the United States in 1994, which was a separate ban from the Russian voluntary restriction on Arms and Ammunition. It is Russia, not the US, that is preventing new Dragunov rifles from being imported to the US.

          • It’s not like treaties or agreements ever stopped you before.

One such example, it was agreed that the Baltic republics would not become part of NATO. But they did, and its people like me that have to learn the language, geography and prepare for a preemptive strike.

  3. The Red Army had a long history of effective sniper employment. There were many famous snipers, including several women during WWII.
