The army of today differs much from what it used to be. In 2006 soldiers were made to participate in cooking. Now food is prepared by civil cooks. Every soldier is supplied with a food-tray which has an equal amount of food on it. Before cooks used to lay the table for 6 people and could serve less amount of food.

Soldiers of former days say working in a pig-house was the most difficult and disgusting thing. They had to bring part of the food wastes to pigs and another part part – to the compost pile. Those who didn’t balance properly could fall right into the stinking hole. The pig-house doesn’t exist today. New soldiers will never know what it means to work there. The military unit contains an interesting museum that can be attended by anyone. What you need to do is to gather a group and arrange for an excursion.

  1. Interesting. Museum looks well worth a visit. But as far as the soldiers’ and officers’ food goes, there’s no comparison between Russia and the USA. Not even in the same league. Nevertheless, I respect these men’s service.
