Border Guards Day

Border Guards Day

28th of May, 2010 is Border Guards Day in Russia. On this day traditionally border guards walk in the city, bathe in fountains and drink a little bit. This year the holiday ended with a successful fight 100 VS 100! They were separated by three platoons. About 70 fighters were detained, about 30 ones were pushed into ambulance cars, the rest were set free. Official statement: “the holiday is assigned to demonstrate combat strength of the platoons, to raise fighting spirit of soldiers doing their call of duty for their motherland and state, but first of all, on this day it’s customary to remember the feat of those who didn’t spare themselves to rebuff invasions of their country”.

Unfortunately, this year the weather in Moscow didn’t allow to bathe in the fountains.

There’s weather but there are traditions!

Police didn’t interfere… Sometimes they only took the pulse of the drunk and walked away.

“Anything to keep them afraid!” – a great motto of the Russian army.

In order not to make you think we were looking for drunk border guards on purpose, we’ll show you that normal sober ones were there too.

  1. The Russian army motto as stated above, ‘anything to keep them afraid’ rather works with these pictures. Nobody in their right mind would want to do anything that could endanger possible future drinkbuddies. Funny pics, as always.

  2. Shame! As a person relevant to the Border Service, I declare these people to serve in our valiant ranks are irrelevant. If they were true then the border guards did not behave like beasts (besides real border guard would never put on a cap with a badge / logo / Armed Forces). By the way the border troops do not have any relation to the army, the paramilitary structure is subordinate to the FSB (the KGB in Soviet times)

    • Agree. May 03-06.
Wear Green Service visor not beret. We are border troops, we are shield of our mother land others just are screws in that shield!

  3. Male bonding going on here….looks like innocent fun. Tomorrow is another day but with an ‘overhang’.lol

  4. Wow!! Just think, border guards. I wish WE could have some border security. But, this is the US, and we’re no longer allowed to have borders here.

I think the US has turned into sort of a “UN”, but as a country. We’re no longer “sovereign.” Everybody that comes here, IS their own country.

Just think…. to have borders…. Wow! What a concept!! And to enforce them!! Holy cow!

    (Looks like a helluva party)

  5. Wow what a sausage fest. I believe Russia needs other “Special Border Guards” to protect them from THESE Border Guards! LOLZ!

  6. Gees we could put them to work down in Arizona. Border Guards what a novel concept. The Idea of a National Identity. Looks like they had a blast for what we Americans Call the first week end of the Summer Season. Memorial Day Week end now till Labor Day in September.

  7. Believe most of these men were former border guards. Don’t believe any present Russian active-duty types, in any service, wear the hammer-and-sickle.

  8. married men who get let off the leash. I have seen this at many football and rugby matches. The big excuse here now is “the curry club”. You say you are going to restaurant/a trip abroad with your group of friends…but you go to get the hell away from your nagging gfriend/wife. More fun than fishing anyway. Russians look like a tough bunch.Big old place.

  9. It is the next provocation against Russian people. Come to us. Come on our sites to understand that it NOT SO.

  10. Cool, photos. Any peaples can be resting (and soldiers aren’t exception).
Englishmens, and Americans likes drunken feast too.
