It seems to be an old Russian tradition to make houses from matches as a gift or just for fun. Do you want to

I already mentioned that in Autumn there is plenty of psychedelic mushrooms grow all across North-West part of Russia. If somebody cared on industrial volumes of producing psychoactive drug from raw organic Psylocybe mushrooms he could get huge amounts of it really cheap. Vast Russian lands are being covered in Autumn with this
little thingies, scattered all over the fields, forests and roadsides. Old people don’t really care on them, but some younger ones know how to get their free LSD like drug right from under their feet. So it’s no surprise that in the early fall Russian internet is being populated with posters like this:

This is a Soviet Era Music video about an American guy who liked Beatles and Rolling Stones, came to USSR and spent time singing with Soviet brothers, but then got a letter from USA ordering him to return to USA sign to Army and depart to Vietnam War. So he did and then got killed. Some sort of a tradegy but look how does
they sing! By the way during the Soviet Era the state had a grip on all the music bands. You couldn't start a band without getting an approval from a special comittee, and if you were planning to play some rock'n'roll you never got the approval. So this was a band with a license from a state.

Some rich Russians from countryside still prefer to live in castles. At least this one does: From a first site
it's a common Russian village. Almost without roads to it as it very often happens in Russian countryside.

Comrade Stalin wanted to turn Moscow city into an 8th Wonder of the World, thus he was planning on constructing some buildings that would look tremendous. Most of his dreams have not come true, Moscow hasn’t become
a World’s Wonder and the buildings were left just on paper, probably because of WW2 was taking place and then the country was recovering from its consequences. Still the designs are fun to look at:

In this article there are some interesting photos of a few Russian churches made in 1910 and today. The fact that makes them more interesting the 1910 photos are color photos also! Russian photographer Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) received a few patents for his color photo technique. He traveled across Russia in the beginning of the 20th century and made thousands of photos. I visited his exhibition and the photos are really stunning, especially when you understand that they were made 100 years ago but are fully in color. That’s a real lost world of Russia before the Soviet era, before WW2 and WW1. Prokudin-Gorskii left Russia in 1918, going first to Norway and England before settling in France. By then, the tsar and his family had been executed during the Russian Revolution, and the Communist rule had been established over what was once the Russian Empire. His unique images of Russia on the eve of the revolution — recorded on glass plates — were purchased by the United States' Library of Congress in 1948 from his heirs. In 2001, the Library of Congress produced an exhibition, The Empire that was Russia. For this exhibition, the glass plates
were scanned and color images were produced digitally from the scanned red, green, and blue monochrome images, using a process called Digichromatography which was developed by Walter Frankhauser. In 2004, the Library contracted with Blaise Agüera y Arcas to produce an automated color composite of each of the 1,902 negatives from the high resolution digital images of the glass plate negatives. A complete description of his process and a list of other sites that have prepared digital color composite images are in the collection profile at the Library of Congress. And here are the few photos of some churches in Seliger region that were made by Prokudin-Gorskii almost 100 years ago and each photo goes with a corresponding photo of the same place made nowadays. Church in Ostashkov small town, 96 years ago. Check out the horse coach on the right. In the beginning of the 20th century when in the USA there were already 1,000,000 people in Russia there were only a few hundreds of passenger cars, the most common mean of transport was a horse powered transport.

There is a very funny sect of extreme Christians in Russia. They look really cool. They became popular for breaking up a Moscow gay parade this year, together with some radical Orthodox Christian priests. At that time gay parade was canceled. That included a public speech of Moscow mayor who said something like “Moscow and Russia are not that liberal to allow this to happen”. You can imagine how far Moscow and Russia are liberal after that. Now, from
their point of view, which doesn’t differ from a point of a Russian Orthodox Church officials, Madonna shouldn’t have a concert in September, 2006 in Moscow. She simply doesn’t have any right for that, because from their point of view she is totally evil pop star. They wear black cloths which is a wild mix of German Nazi military cloths with some Russian military elements and a lot of Christian symbolics and items.
