Subway Buzz

Moscow subway station Strogino 1

A few days ago a new subway station has been opened in Moscow, Russia. From the first days a few stories appeared in Russian blogs about it. First one was concerning strange similarities of this new station inner design with some other subway station that is located in Spain. You can see on the picture above two shots - they look like they were shot in almost the same place but those are two different places, 4000 miles away from each other, to the left this is the Spanish subway and on the right part of the picture there is a new subway station in Moscow, you can decide yourself does it really remind the Spanish one?

The other story was about the strange construction mistake of the metro tunnel at this new station. On the photo below you can see the moment when the train enters the station - in some part of the tunnel the wall is so close that it touches the train and takes of the layer of the paint from it. Not all the trains running in Moscow subway are the subject for this but some models make this fountain of a dry paint each time they enter the station, on the second picture you can see the floor of the station with small pieces of the paint cut off from the trains.

One Snowy Day in Moscow

traffic jam in Moscow, Russia 1

Yesterday it was a very snowy day in Moscow. Tons of snow have fallen down in one day and the big city got jammed. Those who have been in Moscow are aware that there are a lot of problems with traffic even in the regular days, and this surprise from mother nature just made it much worse. They said in the news that if to sum up the length of all the traffic jams that happened that day in Moscow it would be a traffic jam of 300 miles highway length.

Soviet Graffiti

Soviet graffiti 1

In Soviet Russia you couldn’t take some paint tin and go draw something on the walls, just because if you’ve been caught you go directly to jail. All graffiti were considered an evil propaganda, so only approved from the Communist party wall-art could appear. Some still remain there until nowadays - like this one in one of Moscow subway stations.

Kiev Subway Ads

kiev subway ads

A new way of advertising in Kiev subway: it’s not a movie in the window - it’s many single paintings written on the wall of the metro tunnel, so when the train moves at a high speed the pictures change very fast and it seems that there is a movie showing out for the passengers. See video below:

Subway Made of Dirigible

dirigible used in metro construction 1

This man on the pic above was the Russian scientist Tsiolkovsky. Some people in Russia call him the “father” of Russian space program. He also invented the hard-bodied dirigibles and published his works about such models right before foreign scientist Zeppelin, though the name of the later is more associated with dirigibles.

But what’s interesting is that some times later after the construction of those hard bodied aircrafts started, the Soviet state cut the financing and some of them were left unfinished. So Russian people have found another use for large steel “skeleton” frames of the dirigibles - they used them in the subway construction. For example these photos below are shots from one of the subway stations in Moscow. One can clearly see the remains of dirigible implanted in the metro station. If to use some imagination you can find yourself not deeply underground but high in skies, while waiting for the next train.
