Posh Palace in the Moscow Region
A posh palace is being built on the bank of Istrin water reservoir in the Moscow region. It’s a mansion looking like a huge 18th century palace, which is already informally named “Istrin mansion”. Its appearance, quick development and approximate cost were recently debated in Russian blogs. But still having some guesses about who could own such a luxury, no one has an official confirmation on who the lucky man really is.

One Russian newspaper has published the photos of Russian politicians and top governmental dudes with the wrist watches visible on their hands and found all those watches in shops so put this info together with the pics giving the exact price (without tax and custom fees) in the captions.
Those don’t require translations. It’s easy to understand them - most of the prices are in Swiss Franks (CHF) which is almost like dollar now (1 CHF = $0.99). Also there are prices in Russian currency “руб.”, thirty of such equals roughly one dollar. And there are prices in dollars too.
The names of the guys are probably insignificant cause you probably don’t know them, probably except Mr. Kadirov, leader of Chechnya, he is almost the leader in this list too. His watches are priced almost $300,000. Three hundred grands on his wrist.

Nobody had any experience first, there were no luxury boats in Soviet Russia for 70 years in a row. So some manufacturers copy their works from the Western industry, but some go their unique, Russian way, creating something looking not alike to any other, like this one made for one of the Siberian governors.

Christian Dior is one of the most expensive luxury cloths brands. It is so now, and it was so 30 years ago too. But what have they done 30 years ago according to those LIFE photos was an organized trip to Russia for a group of model looking ladies wearing all-new Dior luxury stuff walking on the streets of Moscow.
Of course, as I understand the main purpose of this action was to shoot so cool-looking ads when the so expensive looking Dior models shot on the streets of the dully dressed Russian women, but what did those Russian ladies felt - they were for years deprived from any designer cloths. Not even they couldn’t buy the luxury expensive designers dress but they neither couldn’t buy ANY dress designed for someone else except a Communist Designers Company - those people there didn’t care much about design - they had no any competition - so the cloths available in Soviet stores was far away from being called stylish, and any, just any item which got inside the iron curtain from the abroad was treated as an icon, the pair of just simple blue levi jeans were just an unachievable dream for many Russian people at that times. And in such an atmosphere those girls were walking around the Moscow.

People in Russia who became rich very fast ready to spend hundreds of thousands dollars on the top luxury cars. Moscow is the most populated with expensive cars city in Europe. You can meet them practically on every corner of Moscow downtown. Visitors from Europe say that Moscow is the only city in Europe where you can meet two or three cars worth of more than $200k each at once in one street or standing at one traffic light.
Probably it reminds Arabian countries, where sheikhs love expensive cars also. One difference is that in Moscow the most expensive cars in the world are surrounded by a huge Russia itself, where the average salary of a school teacher is around $1200 a year. That’s not a typo, an average school teacher in countryside gets paid not more than $100-$150 per month.
