Some Strange Performance

Russian strange street performance

Russian street art is sometimes strange, though they say this was a foreign performer came specially to Moscow to make this show and scare passers by.

They made this looking-like-human dolls of some artificial material and then dressed some into realistic clothing others were left as is and then they were spread around the city or some were placed in the river, others were carried around the city in the manner friends carry their drunk buddies.

Some people from the streets looked puzzled, some tried to pretend they are not looking etc. Anyways, it was kind of fun for the dull street life.

War at Ceramic Tiles

Russian ceramic tiles art

In Rostov city Russia an epic forty-thirty years old ceramic tiles artwork has been found in the underground passages.

It tells various stories from World War 2 in ultra realistic style.

Probably that’s one of a kind in the whole world, I doubt somewhere else there are places where this material was used to describe the war happenings.

Russian Matte-Painting

post-3-12556086967090

The other day, while browsing the Web, I came across a nice article on matte painting. A matte painting is a painted representation of a landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create illusions of an environment that would otherwise be too expensive or impossible to build or visit. The thing is matte painting is a quite old technique in film-making with more than one hundred years of history. Although the term itself is not too popular among laymen, we come across various instances of this technique almost every time when we decide to watch another newfangled movie or play a fancy computer game. Surprised? So was I. And if you see somewhere – in a movie, on a photo some unusual, unreal scene or background, be sure that you deal with this very matte painting. Of course, digital matte painting came to practice only a while ago, but is widely used in modern cinematography.

The Graffiti Grannys

Russian graffiti grannys

“How long should we tolerate those tasteless paintings they call ‘graffiti’? After asking this question myself twice I said - we shouldn’t any more!” So says Anastasia, the leader of SSAE - Samarian Street Art Elders. “We decided to show what real graffiti should look like so that our children could adapt good tastes from an early age”.

And so be it - this small town near Samara cCity, Russia began to change with the help of this SSAE team. They decided to give street art a “granny” twist. “We also put nice poetry on walls, it helps!”

Now the walls of houses and lobbies as well as out door spaces such as playgrounds, are all covered by  “Granny Graffiti” and it seems the old graffiti artists have run scared.

Ad Review

Russian marketing

From time to time we have some examples of what amateurish ex-Soviet marketing genius may produce.

First one is pretty cool, it was published in Minsk and the media for it was an egg, or thousands of eggs that were sold in local stores. Text on eggs were inviting people to visit “The Prodigy” concert. Pretty cool, isn’t it.

Recently, a few series of previously unknown Soviet Russian comics books came to the daylight.

Here are the covers of some of them.

The first one is “Chekists” or if to translate it something like “Special Security Agents”. “…In 1918 the new Special Agents comics series appeared and gained huge popularity. The violence level increased with each next edition, and eventually every page had scenes of murders in it.”
