Missile Forces Museum

There is a unique museum located on the territory of the former Soviet Union, and to be more precise, in Ukraine. In the museum there are displayed many exhibits of Strategic Missile Forces. There is no other museum of such kind in the whole world; except one that is located in the USA, but tourists are not allowed there and all the guided tours are prohibited. On this photo you can see intercontinental ballistic missile CC-18 “Satan.”
Polar Bears Prefer Bread

Russian sailors serving on submarines has noticed interesting fact - the most preferred food for polar bears is bread, they like it very much, just look on those photos, how they risking their lives jump from one ice piece to another to get closer to the submarine and ask some more of this when the submarine appears on the surface of the cold polar ocean breaking the thin ice apart.
Abandoned Base, Again

Before it was a place that had been secured as a baby by former Soviet power and was never allowed to stay that deserted.
Now it is something different.
Blockade of Leningrad

70 years ago the city of Saint-Petersburg was called Leningrad and when the Second World War was triggered off, Leningrad was forced to withstand the fascist terror and 3 years long enemy’s push. Germans decided to stab second country’s most populated city which as well had been the country’s weapon broker. But they didn’t choose any aggressive tactics and made a blockade that lasted more than 850 days and led to starvation and constant disorders within the city.
Submarine Goes Dock

When this leading pearl of Ukrainian fleet was taken to dock many experienced aged mechanics wondered how come it reached the dock at all.
“It’s just great that Ukraine has refused to have nuclear weapons.”, note some.
Tow Trucks Cemetery

In one of its inside courts, Minsk Wheeled Tractors plant has housed so-to-say “Jurassic park” where thousands of iron giants made back in the times of the Cold War dwell there thus far. Standing out in the open there gradually peeling off and rusting they look quite sadly. It is hardly imaginable that a few decades back these rocket-o-saurs were taking aback anyone who saw them with their hugeness, roar of engines and impressive flotation.
Dragunov Sniper Rifle

This grave-looking thing is a sniper rifle and is designed for extermination of any emerging, open, masking and any other targets in motion. It is a self-loading rifle and accurate fire is provided in single shots. The size of ammo is 7,62*54R (3 inches in length and 54mm in radius.)
Museum of Long-Range Aviation

Dyagilevo is an air base in Ryazanskaya region, located 11 km to the west from Ryazan. There is the Distant Aviation Museum on the base where we will travel today.
Let’s start our excursion from TU-95, the soviet strategic missile bomber, one of the fastest planes that became a symbol of the Cold War. Russian Bear was made to attack anytime of a day, at any weather.
You In the Army Now, Ukrainian Army

Ex Soviet countries got different legacy from their parent the Big Soviet Union. To list some many Soviet armaments, some were lucky enough to get their hands on missiles and atomic stuff, then all the infrastructure etc etc.
And the compulsory army service is also the thing those countries have from Soviet Union. Like in good old times young boys of 18 and till 27 years old have to take their bodies to the army recruitment point and get their service for one year or more or.. get jailed or at least can’t get a job etc etc.
Then when they get in the army there are some legacies in there from Soviet times too. One of the most interesting facts about Red Army is that there were no socks allowed until some very recent times (2008 or something) or maybe even later. The thing that they used instead of socks were pieces of cloths that were called “portianka” and had to be wrapped around the feet each time young soldier had to put on his boots (everyday).
It takes it roots from 19th century and was totally compulsory for every soldier of Red Army in 21st century.
And this can be continued on and on, better let’s see some photos how they recruit to Army in Ukraine these days. Looks like nothing has changed from Communistic times. Same old tradition to stand pants down before a group of lady doctors for every young man in the country.
Abandoned Military Object

Previously this was an object from the chain of military air defence stations. Then when USSR went down many objects went down too. Lack of funding, new military doctrines and concepts, then international disarmament initiatives - all this lead to thousand of those being left to stay in condition like this.
