One Russian Wife

Russian girl and russian dude

In Russia even you look like this you can get the wife like that.

And you don’t have to be mega rich for that, just enough for you to be some famous old-school Soviet times musician for this.

“If I didn’t know that this is the photo of the girl and her husband I could easily assume that this is the girl with her granny.”

Paris 1970

Paris in 1970

The USSR adopted a not very friendly foreign policy and its realations between western countries were rather strained (we have already written about it here) France’s relations with the Soviet Union have experienced dramatic ups and downs in 70’s. France was a popular destination for Russian migration for two reasons: cultural interest, which was reinforced after the Russian occupation of Paris; and liberalization, which made it easier for Russians to settle in the country. Even though there were still political problems and in October 1985 previous Soviet president Gorbachev made a visit to France in order to fix the strains in the Franco-Soviet relations.

London, 1970

London 1970

Maybe that’s a bit less known fact, but in Soviet Union citizens couldn’t go abroad. The iron curtain had been working two way - not letting stuff and information in and not letting anyone out.

In fact the abroad travel had existed still but only for the best of the best comrades. The controlling authorities, like KGB wanted to be hundred percent sure that the lucky visitor of the foreign state would:
a) get back and won’t ask for a shelter abroad;
b) would behave himself really well - won’t drink all that capitalistic whiskey all night long with strange people like hookers;
c) won’t be seduced by foreign secret services and turned into a spy overnight;
d) won’t buy different banned stuff like porn and jeans and then won’t smuggle it back home and sell it to friends;
e) and finally they needed those who won’t spread stories of admiration of capitalistic style of life upon arrival, but on contrary expected people would tell anyone that life abroad, frankly speaking sucks a lot.

Also, the trips abroad were divided into two categories. First category included the socialistic countries with friendly regimes like Eastern Europe or Cuba. It is strange but even those countries were forbidden for a free visit of a “free” Soviet guy, though it was much easier to get there if compared to a trip to any country of a second category - the capitalistic hell like USA or England. In order to get a chance of such visit one could submit a claim expressing his will to pay a visit to Socialistic neighbour. Then such claims were thoroughly studied by many organizations starting from local police, then a place of work had to make a proclamation then it was escalated to KGB which could approve it or reject it.

But there were no such way to get in London except to a few categories of highly trusted people, one of such were pilots of “Aeroflot” the only Soviet Russian air flights company.

Those pilots who were able to reach forbidden places were considered to be just white bone blue blood amongst their fellows. And there were plenty of reasons why. They could BE THERE and could BRING STUFF from there.

And those are the photos of one of such elite pilots having luck to visit the places that 99.9999% of other Soviet people couldn’t reach ever. London back in 1970s looked different, but it looked totally different for Russian people at all - not anything they had a chance to see at their Motherland.

9/11 in Soviet Russia

Russian 9/11

Seems that in Soviet Russia they had also an accident based on the actions that caued 9/11 tragedy.

Though in Russia it happened thirty-three years ago, in 1976.

Not much of Russian people know about that accident, it was not in Moscow or Saint-Petersburg but in rather small city of Novosibirsk, known as “Science City” - the place where a lot of Russia research centers were based in Soviet times. Even these days this city is said to be the leader in Russian offhore programming companies - tens millions dollars of offhore programing orders come there from all of the Western world.

So, back to what has happened in late seventies there. Actually it was the same scenario when man took the plane and crashed into the multistored building on purpose, with evil plans of kill and destruction in his mind.

Of course, the reasons and the scale of the accident was less smaller than twenty five years later in New York city. The thing that inclined him to this was pretty known to most of you married folks - he wanted to kill his mother in law.

It’s hard to understand now, how such way of revenge to his wife’s mother could come into his head in Russia, where no private aircrafts were owned neither companies could own any. As has been said he was a “bright comrade of Young Communist party, having access to training planes of Soviet Youth Sport Organization”. So one day he turned from a bright comrade to an evil pilot.

It’s hard to believe but he found this house correctly among the hundreds of same looking ones of the Soviet typical construction plans building whole cities of blocks of tens same looking houses. He found the correct one and then he pointed it perfectly into the flat where his wife’s parents lived.

As a result - there were twelve dead and… there was not the mother-in-law among them. She was simply out of the flat that time. They didn’t have cell phones at that times, he couldn’t call from his plane to check if he is coming right time. And of course the mister pilot was dead too.

Sometimes the buildings need showers too.

In this case the underground high pressure water pipes come in very handy. When they become too worn out they demand some attention and complain about this to houses in a furious fountain way.

Exhaust Pipe Smoking

People struggle with smoking worldwide. Sometimes they use as argument to ban public smoking is that if not children see and getting a bad behaviroal example from the smoker. Well, and what about the dogs? Seems that in Russia dogs are smarter than average dogs elsewhere. Remember the tube travelling dogs of Moscow? Now another strange habbit is being seen across Russia. Dogs try to imitate smoking, but still they are dogs so they don’t understand that not all that has smoke can be smoked, so sometimes they smoke… exhaust pipes, as you can see on this footage.

Of course it’s deadly bad for them, but once tried the dog can’t stop getting back to this habbit because it feels high.

Russian Wooden Gadgets

Russian wooden mouse

These days when people going to be more green such devices gain popularity. Russian author of wooden mice writes: “Wood, as the cover material for everyday appliances is almost not used nowadays. Plastics are cheaper, easier to produce, faster - they suit well for mass production. Real wood is still can be found from exclusive furniture producers (regular furniture is made from plywood or laminated sheets). Saw wood industry is also mainly oriented for the construction works, thus the wooden material is available on market is of worse quality. Technologies of producing beautiful things from wood suffered greatly. They are almost, not almost, just forgotten. Just some time ago people could make from wood the things that look like a miracle for a modern person. For example those Russian wooden clocks of the 19th century:”

Such Russian clocks were produced by the Bronnikov family from Russia. For three generations they mastered their skills on crafting light-weight fully functional wooden pocket clocks. Such gadgets were true hit back then, among their customers there were Russian Tzars and other high society members. They were sending their samples to the international exhibitions of Paris and New York to make foreign people awe. The price of such wooden clocks exceeded of those of gold. Not many of those survived Russian revolution and communist reign. Those who did are a rare guest of antique shops priced at around $20,000 for each.
