Casino Flight

Russian plane crashed

As we mentioned before sometime ago all casinos were banned in Russia except some special zones located far from civilization and no actual casinos were yet built there.

People doubted about those special zones rationality cause its much easier to take a flight to some nearby country than to this zone.

So apparently such flights appeared and on of the shortest routes were to Belarus - just an hour flight from Moscow. One of such flights which took a group of vip players to the grand opening of new casino crashed right near the Minsk airport few hundred meters away from destination point.

Ad Review

Russian marketing

From time to time we have some examples of what amateurish ex-Soviet marketing genius may produce.

First one is pretty cool, it was published in Minsk and the media for it was an egg, or thousands of eggs that were sold in local stores. Text on eggs were inviting people to visit “The Prodigy” concert. Pretty cool, isn’t it.

Death Star of Minsk

Library in Minsk 1

This building was not so long ago erected in Minsk by a personal order of Belarus president Mr. Lukashenko. Locals joke: “Lukashenko had just learned to read and decided to build a library dedicated to this new ability he acquired.”

He wanted to build an impressive building and therefore made everyone in the country pay for it. Students had to bring money to school for several months. Teachers are still having a part of their salary taken out to pay for this building. Well at least that locals say.

Foreign printed guide books also sometimes are not so serious about this structure: “Some say it looks like a diamond. We say it looks like the Death Star. In either case there’s no denying that the collosal, new home for the National Library now being constructed on the city outskirts is an example of the Soviet ‘bigger-is-better’ school of architecture. Worse yet, this pet project of Lukashenko’s is partly paid for by money donated ‘voluntarily’ (meaning not voluntarily) by students and school children. When completed, it’ll be big enough to house a whopping 15 million books. The National Library only has 8 million in its collection, so there should be plenty of space leftover for restaurants, gyms, and for the president to roam the hallways in a black cloak, breathing Vader-like while dramatic music plays in the background.”

Of course, the most nice view of it is at night when its lightning is on. It allows to show animated scenes on its uncommon not flat but polyhedron many-sided polyhedral surface. We have a video down this page too.

White Sparrow

The white sparrow appeared among the sparrows in Minsk, Belarus.

It has been said that white sparrows appear only once per 150 years.

Some peoples of the world gave a great meaning to white sparrows. Native indians considered them something special.

In old Russia such white sparrows were called “dukes” and they were considered magic birds. They believed that if somebody would see a white sparrow he can cast a wish and it would become true soon.

So we publish a pic of a white sparrow here - you can cast a wish now!

Strange Soviet Buildings

All these buildings might remind some objects from Sci-Fi movies of the past.

In the former USSR you can meet such buildings. They are not very often but there are some like in this photo series.

Some of the buildings have weird history. For example the building number 3, the “Friendship” hotel attracted a great part of attention from USA intelligence agency. They thought it was some sort of missile launching site.

tbilisi, georgia

This one can remind some castle from “Star Wars” but in fact it’s a place in which Soviet marriage events were held in Tbilisi, Gergia. In Russia and in USSR marriage doesn’t occur in the church, it happens in a special house called “Palace of The Marage”. It is so still nowadays, though after getting married in such place couple can visit a church.
