This is the example of what Soviet Russian citizens could order by mail from their state - the only vendor in the country. It’s no surprise that literary EVERY house in the country had something from those items.
First McDonalds Rest in Russia, 20 Years Ago

Around 20 years ago McDonalds got a permission from the Communist Party of Soviet Union to open its first rest in Soviet Russia. It was not only the first McDonalds but generally the first fast food place in Russia ever. People from all over the Russia when visiting Moscow wanted to visit this “pearl of the capitalism” so there were literary a few mile long lines of the visitors to this place.

A Soviet Shelter

This is a shelter back from the Soviet Era and Cold War when every house had a shelter nearby in case of America attacking. Most of the things there are 20-30 years old, including the batteries, lamps etc. The glass retorts with different chemicals were used for testing the air on the surface and determining the type of attack - different chemicals indicated different type of attack: nuclear, chemical, biochemical etc.
Russian Pilot in Afghanistan

In late 70s Russian army entered Afghanistan, thousands soldiers, hundreds tanks and helicopters, etc.

Just a few years and life would change drastically, people would meet capitalism at its best.

That’s a photo of Roman Abramovich, the richest Russian, in 80s.
Oh by the way he is now second Russian richest one.
First Russian CD

These are photos of first Russian CD.
In Russia common people didn’t have cd players untill mid 90s, so in later 80s there were no Russian music discs at all.
This was the first one produced by Russian music company “Melodia”. You can read the contents on the pictures - it was both on English and Russian language because it was mainly for export - nobody in Russia was in need of cd’s.

Zemlyane

That was a cult Soviet song, from early 80s, about flight to space. It was very popular at that time. Band name is “Zemlyane”.
