Russian Budget Racing
Car racing is an expensive sports, everybody knows that. You need to spend thousands dollars after each round to repair and tune up your racing car. Racing teams rely on rich supporters.
But people in smaller Russian cities can’t afford this, does it mean they are deprived of the possibility to race? These guys from Yekaterinburg, Russia make their races in their own way, on a small playground in the middle of the neighborhood, surrounded by living blocks.
Another strange fact about this race that according to the photos most of the viewers are military and/or policemen.

It’s a crash derby, they have them in the states and in europe, the point is to use cheap cars so that repairs are less expensive. I don’t like the sport, but to clear things up it’s not just russians that do this.

This is not only a Russian phenomenon. In Canada this is called Demolition Derby. You can buy a running car for $100 and participate or kill your own if you were going to get rid of it anyways.

This could be found in Sweden too. It’s called folkrace or the people’s race.
as a kid we used to derby, all the men would come down with their crappy cars and ruin them. and have fun.
and we called it, cars going around in circles hitting each other.

It’s amazing what kind of crap you guys write on the introduction of these pictures. They have a very negative touch on them about the russian people and I often get a feeling person writing them doesnt have any clue whatsoever of the real situation.
About this picture, racing with those kind of cars is very common around the world, not just poor countries. It gives an opportunity for “normal” people to participate the races without huge investments. Racing with rugged cars also gives the races more physical touch as it is not that big deal to hit your competitors.
