Bridges of St. Petersburg at Night

This is photo session of a guy who traveled on one fo the freight boats (from the photo above) under the bridges at night in St. Petersburg.
In St. Petersburg until year 2006 you couldn’t get from one part of the city to another at night in the summer because all the main bridges, more than 20 in total, are being raised so that ships could pass but cars couldn’t. People who failed to return to their homes at night had to sleep in the cars on the roadways to the bridges until they get lowered back.
In 2006 the first bridge tall enough was built, so that ships could pass under it without it being raised.

That’s not truth. I used to swim on another side of the river!
Maybe the photographer was really pissed off, that’s because he was shaking that much.
чё за баржа?
Is the metro lines that go under Neva closed at nights too?
at 2am I think.
It works since 5-45 to 0-30.

These are EXCELLENT photographs.
Shooting at night is difficult to say the least, with long exposure times dictated by the low light level, and then when you throw on top of that, the fact that these photographs were taken from deck of a moving vessel, then perhaps you’ll realize the difficulties that were overcome to get these shots, which are wonderfully exposed and composed.
Don’t believe me?
Easy enough. Set it up for yourself and see what kind of results you get on the waters of your own home town in the black of night.
Not easy. Not easy at ALL.
They are far from excellent. Not bad for an amateur though. Exposure is well enough but the fuzziness spoils the pictures. And I’m not talking about the fogginess - it’s very nice. A moving vessel is not an excuse - it’s steady enough in calm waters. And there are lots of places to find a support for the camera on a deck if there is no tripod. If the engine vibration is strong enough, several layers of thick fabric would fix the problem. For close objects, I would set the exposure to minimum and increase the ISO sensitivity (if it’s even possible with that camera). Composition might also have been much better.
i think theyre fuzzy and crappy because he took the pics from a cell phone..you can see it from the quality of the pics.
That would explain it.
Those are very nice shots for film camera at night.
Maybe you jumped back to the future, but the bridges are still a big problem for all the people who go out in SP during the evenings. If you don’t keep track of time, you have to wait till 4 or 5 to be able to cross the bridge again…
Dniprooooo!!!!!!
Back in the day (1991ish) we lived near the Pribaltiskaya Hotel, and if you didnt make it back in time before the bridges opened, you were stuck there all night!
