      Oooh, Russian Chavs. How delightful!

    2. Ben says:

Well, the people portraited here don’t seem to be the best Russia can offer… But thank you anyhow for putting the photos

Find three differences compared to these vandals from Estonia:

Well, Estonian Russians have much better clothes.

Sorry for the web-page in russian, but your democratic western press will never publish it.

      • maxD says:

First stop, liquor store. What else ?

Nationalism has and still is creating clashes and conflicts throughout history and countless people were killed because of that.

What good has it ever brought anybody ? Apart from political power and all that s connected to it ?

To be born in a specific country or as a member of a specific race or sex is by no means an accomplishment. So why act like it is ? “Insult my country and you insult me” IMO an outdated concept which will not bring anything good. I’m all for individualism - people are the architects of their own live and should be made aware of that. It will motivate and stimulate them.

        • dave says:

Amen, anytime you start classifying people whether based on nationality, religion, race, or sex, you start getting an us vs. them mentality. Patriotism brings nothing of value.

        • D says:

So you suggest we live in a one nation, one race world? Kinda like Hitler wanted? You can’t ignore the different nations, cultures, and races. Nobody had a choice as to what race and nation they are born into. It has nothing to do with accomplishments, its self identity, it’s being able to relate to something. What made you turn againts your heritage? Is it because you want to be something else? Are you not proud of who you are and where you come from?

          • maxD says:

            Hitler was exactly the opposite.

Self identity, yes. Be proud of what you accomplish and what you make of yourself, what you are. You define yourself with every act, every choice you make. Be aware of that.

If you simply rely on your country, religion, sex or race to give you self esteem or an identity, it’s too easy, it is just a given thing. I would say thats the last option, for those who will -read: ‘choose to’- never accomplish anything, for whatever reason.

To say things like ‘I’m a Jewish black disabled woman, who lives in Russia so I’m fucked as far as my future is concerned’ is to give up. Look at someone like Stephen Hawking - everything was against him, but he focussed on what he had and what he could, not on what he didn’t have or was unable to.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_hawking

Act ! You define your world and therefore your future with your actions. Why choose mediocrity if you can be outstanding ?

And no, I’m not proud of where I come from, I’m indifferent to it. What is there to be proud of ? It’s just a starting point, like your height i.e.

            • D says:

Ok, so you relate to people who are the same height as you the same way you would relate to people born in your city or town? I take heritage a little more seriously than that. I grew up around Americans, almost all my good friends are Americans, and even life long friends can never relate to me on certain ideas and ways of thinking, only other russians can. We act, think, and look alike. The soul of a Russian man can never be understood by others. This is what I relate to. These people are my self identity. Thats not to say I don’t have accomplishments that I am proud of. I have many, but I will not get into on a forum about Russia, thats not the subject here. I can say almost the same thing about you…. you are proud of nothing … and hate everything. Take your own advice, stop criticizing and do something about it.

Do not stick up for Hitler. He was an evil man who wanted to take over the world and exterminate all but one race.

              • maxD says:

I have the impression you do not understand what I’m writing.

1: I do not ’stick up’ for Hitler. Like I said, he’s embodying exactly the opposite of what I’m saying.

2: You state that the soul of a Russian man can never be understood by others. Thats crap. I’m a Russian man, and my soul is not really different from my neighbours soul. Ok, if you grow up in New York you have a different background than when growing up in Novo Sibirsk. But this has nothing to do with ’soul’. The way you state it God has two choices when molding males : Russian and the rest. Crap. Russians in general like to say this type of thing, but imo it’s just some sort of romanticism / nostalgia, like believing in astrology: I’m a libra and that’s why I act the way I act. It’s exactly the other way around: you ‘dress up’ in this description because it appears to fit you AND it gives you an identity, something to relate to [not to mention that all of a sudden you're part of a group, which people in general like: it gives them a sense of security].

The same applies to this ‘Russian identity’. When you’re growing up your parents shape your identity. If they have a nationalistic feeling, you will also get it. But you do not have to stick with it.

Be critical about everything: question everything, don’t take anything for granted. Go with the flow is for lazy and/or cowardly people. Look at your own role models if you have any: anybody there who ‘went with the flow’? Guess not. Dare to stand out and be your own man. It’s not easy at first, it can be very lonely, but very rewarding too. And in the end you have something to be really proud of.

You state I’m proud of nothing, but you don’t know me, so you don’t know what you’re talking about. I respect other people and their opinions in general and expect the same back. I don’t hate everything - I try to stimulate by being critical. I like to act like a mirror.

But again and again it is proved that my Russian compatriots are very bad in dealing with criticism - in general they will not look into the substance of the critical remarks, but only at the criticism itself. Their inferiority complex speaks up: how dare you criticize me; you think you’re better than me?? No way !!
Criticism can be very constructive and that’s what I try to accomplish. Everytime I’m back in Russia the complete numbness of the people shocks me. They seem to have no drive or motivation other than just to make it through the day. You see very little smiles and happiness on the streets. That’s sad. People should be made aware of their freedom and do something constructive with it.

                • D says:

How dare you critisize me, you think you’re better than me?

Just kidding, you and me are on two different wavelengths, no point in discussing anything with eachother, we speak in different tongues…… you probably aren’t Russian.

                  • name says:

I’m writing from the UK (/NATO? not - I’m from Camberwell!) (not relevant really), but I have to say I think maxD is one of the most eloquent writers I have seen on any response-blog (nato or otherwise).
We are who we make ourselves.
D - you are so missing the point. I really cannot add more to maxD’s comments — he has said everything I could hope to say.

                    • D says:

Nice try…. we all know name=MaxD, but enlighten me anyway, cause I’ve read it twice and I still don’t get the point. Is it that Russia is bad? Don’t be proud of being Russian? That I have an inferiority complex? He writes like my little cousin when he’s trying to make himself seem smarter online, nothing special. Eloquent?…please…this is a blog comment section…. fuck eloquence.

        • What an excellent comment!!! Nationalism, has no place in a morden society which thrives on integration, immigration, multiculturalism, and globalization.

Love eachother and live as one!!!

PS: That is not to say that cultural and national differences and state sovernty should be ignored. We must find an appropriate balance :)

      • void says:

        asdf
Estonia is the same third-world country as Russia is.

        • Estonia and Russia and all former soviet country’s are 2nd world nations.

          • They were considered 2nd world only as members of the SU. Now they don’t belond in ether categorie. They are somewhere in between 2nd and developed developed worlds.

        • Bullwinkle says:

          Estonia great country!

        • pld says:

I don’t usually feed trolls like you, but have you ever been to Estonia? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Estonia is mostly considered a civilized nation and a 1st world country by now, full member of EU and NATO; not really comparable to the huge cesspool that is Russia.

          • yana says:

Calm down! The first !!! Between wood-cutters and swine-herds! But I have to say that in tzarist Russia the Estonians could also worked as a governers in small fasenders/ For their IQ it was the ceilling

          • Washington says:

Yes, Norway, Swaziland, and Island must all be third world countries because they are not mebers of EU.

            Ha ha, what a moron!

      • Bert says:

    30. I’ll try to explain some, but my knowledge of language is awful. In Russia every ninth have been in jail for a long time, and has plunged into its culture deeply. There spetial rules for many life situations called “ponytia”. Explaining that will set a lot of losts in translation, and it demands exp of living in Russia. So, they have children, and grow them pretty well. This bastards become “gopniks”. “Gop stop” - robbery on jail sleng.
