The car on the pic above is the old Russian LADA 2107. It was in production since 70s, until late 90s. When it was taken off from the production many Russian people thought that finally they got rid of it. But here is a surprise from Russia car manufacturer. New Lada 2107.

In my opinion it looks even worse than 2107 itself…

    2. Lada Riva FTW!

A friend of mine’s family had a Riva many years ago and it was a great car according to them. They apprently hit about 115mph in it one time!

    3. Shit, what`s that?!

Looks like an ugly bastard crossbreed between Lada Kalina and Volga.

    4. 1l1 says:

      i hope it’s fake

    5. Robert says:

Looks like all they’ve done to the outside is just chopped the front off and uglified it.

I’d love to have a car that looks like a Lada; just as long as it doesn’t behave as one.

    6. D says:

I don’t get it. Russia makes some of the worlds best planes and jets, but ask them to build a decent car and you get this. All other major car companies had roots in aviation, so one would assume that Russia can make a car to rival Saab, Diamler, Mercedes. But no, we get a Lada (lot of) shit on wheels.

    7. mrcann says:

my dream is to see this shit fucking car die! :)

    8. Lada are really up shit creek without a paddle TBH. Look at far eastern Russia, where cheap right-hand drive Japanese imported cars make up nearly 90% of all cars in those various regions. This poses a serious problem for Lada and other Russian car manufactures as trying to compete with the reliability and durability of Jap cars would be very difficult, if not immpossible, for them.

On another note, the previous Riva was designed of the Fiat 124 if I’m not mistaken, what is this heap of scrap designed of?

    9. x57 says:

Love those cars! Ship one to Michigan along with the bill, please.

    10. lada fan says:

      i like lada :P

    12. Nikolay says:

Oh my god! Is it finally 2.0 DOHC Turbo AWD ABS TRC, may options inside? So ugly…….. Looks like from 80’s
When someone will buy this manufacture and demolish facility, all people around will be happy with Audi, Mercedes, Skoda, VW, BMW, Toyota, Nissan, Infiniti, Subaru, Mazda and other Cars!

    13. Texas1 says:

So what does this thing cost?

    14. nickdrj says:

Zaparozhetz for the win, where are the new models of that.

    15. I am says:

      Russian gangsters classic car

    16. Couldn’t be any worse than the Taiwan-made Toyota we own here. Car buyers here in Taiwa are extremely unsophisticated and people mindlessly put up with some real crap cars, and they’re expensive! The SanYang made licensed copies of Hondas are no better than the Toyotas and Nissans: There’s no comparison with real Japanese made stuff. Shit, send me a LAda, I’ll give it a try.

    17. Jeff says:

Does it only come in blue?? All my cars are red :-(

    18. Texas1 says:

It needs some wheel covers. Russians must not like hub caps because they seem to be missing them on many cars featured on this site.

    19. Da_Dude says:

Wow so Fucking great….i’m so confused on the design…hmmm is it Pininfarina design or Porsche?? ….may be they want to unveil it on Geneva Auto show ….??

    20. sbull.net says:

They could have at least tried to style it…

    21. Stephen says:

Classic? I noticed that designation on the back. It’s not ‘old’ or ‘overdone’, it’s ‘classic’. :D

    22. all genial is simple!
      time to unpimp ze auto…

    23. pld says:

Ahhh … my eyes … the goggles, they do nothing!

    24. A. Pie says:

What in god’s name is that thing driving the car in the first pic?

    25. 1l1 says:

its the plush toy hanged on the mirrow

    26. streetracer says:

first 2107 was better, this looks bad :/

    27. steven wolf says:

I bet these cars use more gas than the origional models lol.

    28. Sarcasm. Even in this time when other car manufacturers makes similar bolides like spaceships, russian cars still uses 35 year old shell.
No secret, but I still have VAZ-2103 made in 1974. And I can strongly say that my car is some kind of classic or retro.
By representing Lithuanian lada club “LADAKLUBAS” [http://www.ladaklubas.lt], I affirm to a very bad step of Russian car step for future.

    29. gezn2 says:

      Why all the hate?
From the picture, this new Lada is based on the old body shell with new sheet metal on the front and rear. That means they’re using tooling that’s already *paid for*, they can get this car to market *much* cheaper than an all new model, that means they can sell it for a profit at a much smaller price and volume.
This car is entry-level basic transportation, period.
If you were a first time car buyer and had a choice of spending your hard earned Rubles on a brand new car with a factory warranty or some used POS that had been dealing with Russian roads for however many years you might be tempted, especially when you see large numbers of the original version still in use after years of abuse :)

    30. odessit says:

      i dont like it

    40. TO THOSE RESPONSIBLE AT AO AvtoVAZ

Right, sad to say. The original - presentable Italian design when new - truly had some charm. And wasn’t as small as some tend to moan - today, there’s Suzukis, Minis, Micras, Ka-cars, … all such limited space needs is intelligent seat shaping to make it comfortable for taller, longer-legged folks, and to grant passangers not to roll to the side when passing narrow curves fast.

It was simply essential, sort of a humble, but at the same time almost somewhat elegant parody of what little kids from the 1950s on tended to draw as edgy right-angled standard passenger car shape.

A renewed - or reminding - car of that type should either use current inspirations. But perhaps quite courageously, watching the development of realistic, yet not too common lines in concept car designs.

Or it should be a subtle, truly dignified - and even improved(!) - redesign. Not just a short-lived past re-invention, like the (though somewhat pretty) Nissan Figaro or the nice ’round 2000 retro Thunderbird. But really inspired to last, like the Mustang, Charger or Camaro concepts, or the reborn Volkswagen Beetle. Or the Mini.

And avoid those optically heavy outside-diaper-like black aprons - that’s like sending sunnyboy out to a bmx bicycle competition, on dad’s 1970s folding bike, with training wheels added, the only guarantee even all the adults will laugh at him.

There’s obviously been done almost nothing to the passenger section, except replacing the rest of chrome (been reduced by and by during 25 years) with black rubber or polysomething, and adding (dia-per, dia-per!) protection strips to the doors. The face has been, like Robert stated, just uglified. only the upper part of the rear shows a tiny little bit of what might be something that one day can grow to sort of a slightly strange but almost special idea.
      ___

So, wipe off all the miscarried changes, take this little attempt, breed and feed or fertilize and water it, or start completely new (with the 1970s Fiat/Lada, or with an independent idea) - and afford a really good designer. Consider: this is, except years ago, some luxury sports concept car attempt with Mercedes-Benz (of no meaning for mass production), the very first step of a Russian car’s exterior into the 21st century, years after even China has arrived here.

If you just let it happen the way the pics show, history books will remember an embarassingly ugly flop.

But if you invest some wit, creativity and even money (modernistic or retro - THAT is still your choice and of little matter for the success), photos of the resulting new Lada on Red Square may become a (the very?) new global cult symbol of design.

    41. Doinkmilll says:

Looks ok, tbh would buy one.
If only fiat would do a copy of the 131!!!!

    46. Jim Bob says:

The thing about a Lada is that it is cheap to buy and made for poor road conditions. It may be outdated looking, but I think it looks better than a lot of new cars today ( the original, that restyle is hideous!). If it were as cheap as I think it is and available in the US, I would give it serious consideration. It looks a whole lot better than the Toyota Yaris, and other similar FWD garbage that is sold here. Unfortunately, if it were sold here, it would have unnecessary emissions equipment and safety crap like air bags that would make it heavy and expensive.

    49. Folken says:

I don’t know why the author said it was in production until 1990s, because 2107 is still in production in 2009! VAZ makes it along with newer models like Kalina and Priora. For example, here’s the pricelist of one of the official dealers: http://www.eleks.ru/lada/
As of 2009.03.01, the 2107 costs 161500 Rub which is about $4500. They still make it because it’s popular, and the price is the main and probably only cause of this popularity. Still, many people including me prefer used European cars which in many cases are even cheaper despite ridiculously high import duties here in Russia.

    50. John says:

I’ve always liked the Lada 2105/7 type models.I never got to drive one because I live in Toronto Canada and they haven’t sold those here for many years. I was quite young when they were around, too young to drive. Also they were not very popular here because of political reasons. The TV and the newspapers always depicted Russia as the enemy. Remember Ronald Reagan U.S. president declared Russia an “EVIL EMPIRE”, well Canada usually just follows the USA anyway and if people saw you driving a Lada they frowned at you.
I wonder if they could try selling them here again. Sooner or later people are going to need a cheap car once again as the economy gets worse, and GM may disappear some day. If they make them to be OBD2 compliant and they meet our pollution restrictions, I don’t see why not. the price is cheap and some of you say they’re tough as hell.
Also I think I found the website:
      http://www.lada-auto.ru/cgi-bin/models.pl?model_id=4935&branch=tth

      • Marko says:

They sold new ladas (in alberta at least) as late as 97/98. I think they quit selling 2107 (”signet” here) earlier, and it was only Niva available. But they quit selling it due to emissions or crash saftey or somesuch…

    51. I’d like to offer you a new idea
for a brake device which prolongs
expiration time of the brake pad &
prevent heat rising around it. Danial. Egypt. Alexandria
