Propaganda? I doubt it. Just a standard SNAFU with radars and missiles…
Seems to me that the word “control” in English is stronger term than was intended on the illustation. It is ridiculous to say that USA controls Russian territory in the English sense. Probably it was from Ivanov, making excuses for wasting his budget on useless rockets instead of making necessary improvements to military.
Agree, I am sure there could be the same map of how Russia “controls” American territory with whats left of its nuclear submarine fleet, missile cruisers, strategic bombers etc.
I tend to think that without those “useless rockets” China, US and everybody else would be pumping Russian oil. I don’t like Ivanov and yes conventional military does need some sort of reforms badly but without nuclear shield Russia would be defenseless.

I think your wrong about America targeting the Russian people. Actually in America the people have felt that Russia is moving closer to it’s people’s needs rather than just blowing up the world.
On September 11, 2001 the missle silos were reopened and retargeted, but the target was not Russia. The bombers were of course rearmed with conventional weapons as you’ve all seen in the past. Now the silos have been shut down again

The Chinese are making huge gains with technology supplied by both the USA and the Russians. They openly brag that they can field a 200,000,000 man army at any given notice!
What Russia needs to do is to halt the sales of arms to the mideast (America should to). Move their economy into a “people’s economy” that is fueled by people like you buying goods made in Russia. As the economy grows then Russia could well be a major exporter. There are hundreds of markets out there just waiting for them. And with this bringing in more and more new jobs they will only get stronger. Right now it’s hard to invest money in Russia because of the crime factor. You have to pay bribes to get something shipped inside of Russia. So Putin needs to get a grip on the Russian Mafia, and send them to the gulags in the far north.

My point was that once deterrence is achieved, and achieved 100 times over, it is a waste of money to continue to build mor and more. All the money spent on new nuclear weapons since 1982 has been direct response to American provocation and has added nothing to national security, which was already complete. I consider all these nuclear weapons, beyond what is needed for deterrence, to be useless because they can only be used in the case of national suicide or when the nation is already in the process of being destroyed. Meanwhile, the naval forces are in shockingly bad condition and the army is a national embarrassment. Asymmetic meaasures just means that my 5000 will kill you just as dead as your 10,000 will kill me.

I owuld prefer a balance as there was during the cold war to either of the extremes, without the USSR there is no counter balance to the US, and one is needed, hopefully china will get to it within the next decade, but I still wan’t to see my homeland strong, and out of this I have negative feelings towards those who crippled it.

During the Carter and Clinton administrations the Army and Navy were stripped to the bare essentels. Russia has gone thru a similar process, so I’d say we are both in the same boat.
Now I’m not much on the size of the Russian Army or Navy, let alone their Air Force. But I do know that they are faced with huge spare parts shortages with their aircraft. Know little about the Russian Army other than there seems to be a lack of basic equipment for them (food clothing and shelter). The U.S.Army isn’t much better as either. They are lacking in standard equipment (body armor and basic weaponry). Yet we can build an airplane that can haul more equipment than we’d ever need and a huge cost. One of those planes could outfit a batallion!!
This has finally come to light over here. You can build the most fantastic weapon ever dreamed of, but it’s only as good as the person using it. The one thing I have seen that we do better here is in managing our quality control. It’s not a good idea to put a pilot in a plane that’s going to break down while he’s flying it. Or a kid in a tank that has a bad recoil system on the main gun. This can be blamed on faulty manufactureing more than anything else. The engineering processes will cure themselves over time, but even there you can get into trouble
(we have here as well).

most of the major American companys have already pulled out of Russia, but not because of Russia telling them to get out. They’ve pulled out due to the Russian Mafia.
Russia came to America to help the drill for oil and natural gas. The USA got nothing but fees for drilling. The gas went to Europe and China. The oil stayed in Russia and China. Precious metals are another thing that Russia has nearly a complete monopoly on. As for getting out of Europe; we want to get the military out of Europe, but they want that billion dollars a day it puts into their economy. And lets face it; with the exception of Germany and the UK, the rest of them are cowards when it comes to war.

Gary, we had set up oil and gas drilling operations for a very long time, we certainly did not need americas help with drilling, my father was and still is the director of Russian geophysics, with over 200 patents to his name, he also spent 40 years of his life looking and drilling for oil and gas in siberia and central asia, and is payed BY AMERICANS for his work in finding wells in texas in the 1970’s , so no… we certainly did’nt need help with drilling as we have enough experts of our own, who I would say are far better.
I once had a brother inlaw that owned oil drilling leases all over the world, and the USSR came to him for help (as did China later). I don’t think he took them up on it, but did give it a lot of thought. He did say that he had enough trouble managing the sites he owned let alone take on a handfull of new projects. I keep looking for his name to show up in Iraq, but so far he’s smarter than taking that dog for a walk!

Well the picture looks alot like something put together by a political cartoonist, not always acurate, but sometimes funny, if you like that kind of humor. However, for the last 20 years I’ve been studying the relationship of USA/Russia from an entirely different perspective, and it strikes me as a fulfillment of biblical prophesy. Russia and the United States have always been in bed with each other for the last 200 years, so stop yer griping, we’re bedmates. When endtimes come, be garuanteed that the good ole USA will be right there beside Russia when the scourage from the North attacks the promised land. Biblical prophesy also says this will be prior to Armegeddon, but will mark the beginning of the end. The very last war will be between God and Satan. I wouldn’t worry too much about America spying efforts. The Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor was a surprise. The Chinese main army, entering the Korean War was a surprise, the Tet Offensive was a surprise, the 9/11 World Trade Center attack was a surprise. We couldn’t find one stinking weapon of mass destruction in Iraq. That was a surprise.

After reading your article on attacking Russia, I am offended that such a country as Russia is being discredited like this, I am an American but even I think this is offensive to write such an editorial about Russia.
First of all Russia is a superpower, they have the world’s largest nuclear weapon arsenal, 10 times greater than the US, Russia’s economy is stronger than the US, BBC news reported this recently. Third they are an energy super giant and their military has been continuing to update in all forces of the 21 century weapons compared to the US and they have every domain of power in ideological, diplomatic and technological fronts. Russia is a superpower because they have the economics, the wealth, the diplomatic power, ideological, technological advances than any other country besides the US, they have the cultural sector and lets not forget their military levels (surpreme). Russia’s nuclear arsenal weapons are 10 times greater than the US.

As an American, I respect Russia and her people, both Americans and Russians have the same problem, theiving oligarchs robbing us and a whole world that wishes us to fight each other and fail as nations.
Russian Military is, as a whole, is poorly maintained , poorly trained and poorly equiped. Their biggest benifit is Russians, as whole, are more patriotic and much less “whiney” than their American counterparts. Russia has always had better intellegence gather capacity, I’m sure that is still true today.
The US military is better maintained , trained and equiped than their Russian Counterparts. Americas biggest flaw is we , collectivley, are “whiney” and self absorbed, we stay Patriotic until we are asked to sacrifice, then many of us change our minds.
If anything Russia and America should try to be friends , as we have more in common than we think. I think china appearing out of no-where to become such a fast growing power is a good thing for russia, untill the late 90’s we were the centre of attention, in the shadow circles of western governments, and in 1998 everything went down the drain so damn fast, that it’s a miracle that we survived at all. If you read Bzeshinski’s (sp?) book, he outlines the future plans america needs to execute, funny enough, alot of than are happening right now.
You would also have to be naive to say that the states don’t want russia’s resources, or to cripple it beyond it getting up. Don’t get me wrong the people in the states are wonderful, but in the world of politics it is one of the ultimate goals.
