Snow Delivery
Yesterday in Moscow there was held Parallel Slalom FIS Champions Cup. The annual event is carried out in Moscow already for several years, each year in November. The jump is a huge construction of 60 meters high, 37 meters wide and 210 meters long (195/120/690 feet.) But there is one question, where did they get such an amount of snow for the event? Since this weekend weather wasn’t so cold, about 40 F, and snow was melting quite pacey in the streets of Moscow.
As every single year lapses and date of the event drawing close, designers of the project coming up with another and even more sublime idea of the jump. Last year they built a jumping-off place of 56 meters high and 150 meters long (180/490 feet) and their building was listed in the Guiness Book of World Records. But this year they managed to build a jump that still greater than their last offspring and cracked their own record one more time.
But then again to snow. As it was already said, the weather was kind of warm in Moscow lately, so the authorities were supposed to do something with this. And they surely did. An incredible amount of new snow was delivered from the northern Russian city of Archangelsk. Usual temperature this time of the year there is around 14 F, so nobody could be distressed about quality of snow.
It was delivered by the special aircrafts equipped with refrigerated chambers. Some of you would definitely ask yourself a question. Why for to ship snow? It is awfully expensive, you need to spend money on fuel, special equipment as well as on workforce. Couldn’t they just hold the same tournament somewhere in mountains? There is natural environment there, fresh air and no dirt in the streets at all.
I think the answer is quite obvious. Since the event is such a high-ranked one it cannot be held somewhere just in the mountains but in the capital of the country, Moscow. It is a rigid must to look at sportsmen running high into the Moscow skies and see the star of Moscow State University peeping in from the background.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to manufacture snow on site instead of shipping it in from elsewhere?
I remember when I was in Moscow, and I saw them dismantling that scaffolding right in front of Moscow State. I took pictures of it.

I like to look at the webcam at webcam.mnc.ru I always wondered what the scaffolding was in front of Moscow state now I know thanks.
I am really excited because it began pouring at my house and that means snow at the local resorts! And also I just got my hands on a discount lift tickets card member for a ton of mountain resorts!
