Russian President’s Plane

russian president's plane

This plane was mainly used by president Yeltsin, the first president of Russia.

It costed $300,000,000 and $40,000,000 of it went for inner decoration.

These day Vladimir Putin uses another plane and the plane on photos is used as a reserve one.

      areomobile palace :)

    3. rufus says:

Are the decorations were put by the president Yeltsin’s taste?

    4. Bert says:

      Acts of atrocity!

    5. SteveO says:

dang, sell those fittings and buy the russian people some proper homes to live in (or roads to drive on)

      • Feodor says:

Hei what is you business to tell Mr.Putin what to do Russian peo0ple live million times better then you can ever imagine i mean what have you know about Russia we r happier then any of you americans

        • Igor says:

Really? If Russians are happier than Americans, why are they so angry all of the time? Might it be that they are living in poverty? If I lived in Russia where the seniors, who worked all of their lives, received a pension that is barely enough money to survive on(who can live on $250 a month), I would be extremely angry to see that the government is spending money on gold hardware for a plane. If you can’t see a problem with that, then you are a blind puppet of the “democratic” Russian government.

          • Alex says:

With the price of food in russia 250 dollars a month is plenty, and since they all got free housing during the soviet era they don’t pay rent. THey also don’t pay transport or medical fees.

            • Benny Bear says:

Can’t we just say we both live in countries who don’t provide enough for everyone? Besides, all the Russians I’ve met have been A-OK with me, a little weird sometimes, but super nice!

p.s. - my anti-spam word for this post was “KGB” HAH!

          • KanuTaH says:

This is bullshit Igor, it seems like money can buy you, you hungry democrat! Why are so many poor people feel happy in Afriva then, according to surveys. Allright I am happy, so what nxt… I, I am cooomm communist? fascist, ritch? American? have big lifestyle expectations?

    6. Yuri says:

It makes Hearst Castle look stylish.
      Planely (pun intended) ridiculous.

    7. Python says:

Where did he store the Vodka? :P

    8. Bert says:

I mean the thing looks like a gypsy’s dream, atrocious taste.

    9. democrat says:

I should not have criticized Bush so much after seeing how much money Putin is wasting. Russians that have $$$ (mafia, oil, etc.) always like things such as gold toilets, etc. People that blame the US have not seen what is going on in other counties.

    10. What type of plane is it? A Tupolev?

    11. Flanger says:

      2 Bishop Brennan
      Its IL-86 (Il’yushin)

    12. Goes to show - you can’t buy good taste.

I love the shitty fake gold trim on everything. Very classy.

    13. max says:

there are no il 86. Only il 82. President plane is a wide body il 96, and yes its a Yeltsin taste.

    14. max says:

by the way, its not a picture of president plane up there. Its aeroflot colors. President plane has state colors.

    15. max says:

this is the problem. Its real gold. Spent big cash on it. Could feed a lot of homeless kids on such money.

    16. He was probably drunk when he designed the interior.

    17. Czar says:

You guys obviously have no idea of what eastern European design and taste is like… why you may think it is horrendous, it’s actually quiet artistic, lavish and glamourous compared to the shit our President’s fly in.

    18. If we cant keep nice communist traditions, like building things completly out of steel, marble, granite and reinforced concrete, we`ll stick to some more ancient traditions, that come with white fabrics, gold platings and green malakhite thingies.

    19. AmericaPhobe says:

“there are no il 86. Only il 82. President plane is a wide body il 96, and yes its a Yeltsin taste.”

      Comment by max — January 26, 2007 @ 1:27 am

Off course there is. Il-86 is a model of Ilyushin desing bureau. There is not a such thing as Il-82.

      Check your facts.

    20. Texas1 says:

I bet that Yeltsin got some cuties on that big bird. Dang! I wish I could have been born a washed up communist politician.

    21. max says:

yeah, u right, anyway its Il 96. Il86 is a 3000 miles range plane. Not good If u wanna fly to ur chinese friends:))

    22. Texas1 says:

If I was a Russian politician, I would have had it tricked out like in that movie Soul Plane. It would have a disco ball, DJ and and a thumpin’ system. I would have some hot little Russian girlies workin’ it too.

    23. Robert says:

“You guys obviously have no idea of what eastern European design and taste is like… why you may think it is horrendous, it’s actually quiet artistic, lavish and glamourous compared to the shit our President’s fly in.”

But of course we DO have an idea of what Eastern European design and taste is like — and it’s atrocious. The highest taste is that which doesn’t need to shout to the world “Look! I’m made of gold! I cost $300 million dollars for no reason!” That kind of showiness just breeds resentment and says far more about what you *have* than who you *are*. It’s little better than P.Diddy taste, which is to say crass, flashy and competitive.

Look at the Queen Mother of England. Her family has hundreds of millions of dollars, but she owned the same cardigans and shoes for years and years. Of course, they were originally of good quality and were well-cared for, which resulted in a charming patina. And wearing these things connected her with her subjects, who adored and respected her. Think any ruler of Russia will ever have that rapport with their subjects? No way. It all comes from taste and breeding.

Speaking of taste and breeding — look at the Japanese Imperial Family. Their taste is ultra-refined, yet understated. They don’t need to shout “we’re from a thousand-year-old family of Emperors and we could buy and sell Mr. Putin every day and never go broke.” No, some of their greatest treasures are simple stoneware tea bowls from the 15th century, because of what those objects *mean*. They mean that one can have the humblest of experiences (preparing and drinking tea out of simple stoneware bowls with welcome guests) and have it be more meaningful than showing off ones collection of jewel-encrusted Faberge eggs. THAT is taste. Maybe some Eastern Europeans have it, but none that I’ve met.

    24. Shizo says:

This design is straight from the Soviet era. Most of the Kremlin and Moscow White House looks like that inside.

    25. Texas1 says:

It still looks like someone from Africa designed the interior.

    26. ciccio says:

Love your site, needs some corrections.
      Cost, not costed.
      Interior, not inner.
      These days.
used as a reverve (one is implied and redundent)

    27. jcp says:

      #25
I once worked with a guy that wore cardigans with a patina. I never thought they were charming though. Maybe he was royalty?

#16 Please, be real. This is not solid gold!!

If he heally had class, he would of done it up like the legendary amber room. Now that was class (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber_Room)
All of you who criticize this for being extravagant, please understand that it could have been worse.
      -jcp-

    28. [...] Of course, if I owned a Carrera GT, I’d want my own police Cayenne escort… or not. The rich in Russia really have no sense of taste—right on up to Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin, who have possibly the gaudiest Presidential transport I have ever heard of. I guess they don’t share the American pretension to humility, but this is outta control. [...]

    29. jim says:

“the American pretension to humility” - man i just HAVE to thank you for the last 5 minutes i spent under the table laughing))) good times, good times..

    30. DD says:

Tax Payer money going to good uses.

    31. Bob_E_Zelbub says:

You’d think that after spending $40,000,000 on such an extravagant interior they would think to have a closet for the ironing board, not just strapping it to the wall.

    32. ABX says:

I guess now you Russians also recognize why is it good that the soviet union is over. The ruling class doesn’t have to fly the shitty tupolevs any more, you can also buy these nice western jets. And you can be as parvenu as you wish. Finally.

    33. his says:

Cheese. It’s not just for desert tray anymore.

    34. Donal G says:

are you serious? the pension is $250 a month!!! in russia? surely you meant per week? right?
Pension here in Ireland is 300 euro per week ($500)

      • numb says:

You don’t need to spend money on food etc as much as in Ireland, for example. 250 USD is not much, but you can get more with it than in many western countries.

    35. frankel says:

You yanks are the ones with your taste buds in your arse.

Seriously, do you think just the President flies on that plane? If you answered yes, you are a tool.

That plane would also take other dignitaries from around the world, it’s only proper that it is decorated the way it it.

That interior represents culture from the originating country (extravagantly I would admit), but it’s better than the cultural imperialism and resultant artistic sterility you North American retards exhibit.

Signed-An Australian. And before you ask, no I didn’t know Steve Irwin. I wish I had, as I could have punched him in the face for his mindless optimism.

      • KanuTaH says:

No one needs that luxury, luxury spoils people. Look at putin, oficially he only gets his salary of about 50 000$ or something like that per year and thats it.

    36. Samir says:

of course it is not only for president, cant you see that above the door, there is VIHOD (out on russian) and EXIT on english… i am not russian i am bosnian, but i was in russia in school in 95, and i was on visit in 2006. russia is everything but poor country, and stupid americans imagine slums or something like that where people live. truth is, that only foreigners live in slums, and russians are or very very very rich, (mafia) or low class, but not POOR! wealth is in hands of little men, but, it is not like, in MONTY PYTHON, “look, there is some very nice mud” :S AND, east european culture is thousands years old, everyone reads books, most people are some kind of artists. unlike americans who dont have their own culture, they just go around the world, spreading their “lyberalism” and “democracy”, and the truth is, that when most of americans look on their ancestors, they find whores, pirates, prisoners, robbers, slave traders… the lowest of mankind… it is a very silly thing to patronate Russia, from your american point of view…

      • alive says:

If Russians are so great and Americans are so dumbs, how come that everybody want to be american and nobody want to be russian(but the stupids,of corse).

        • Sorry, but in this time I doubt somebody wants to live in the usa. At this time when the United States is like a sinking ship so inevitable due to a financial crisis of immense proportions, and that affects all nations of the world, I doubt anyone wants to live in the United States. On the other hand, trying to give an opinion as objective as possible, Russia presents a more hopeful economic outlook presented by the United States. The economic policy of President Bush was very wrong and can be regarded as a flop.

Talking of another topic, let me ask you what the American citizens think about how the president-elect Barak Obama may withdraw troops from Iraq when faced with opposition from the U.S. Military Industrial Complex?
          Thanks for your ANSWER

      wow
      !

      thats the “reserve?”

i can´t imagine how is the official one!

    42. Magyar says:

Oh, you jerks. What in the hell you wanted to see in the PRESIDENT’s plane? Plastic chairs? A typical logic of a biomass “sell art, sell palaces, sell pictures and buy me food, though I’m a dumb fuck that will never do anything useful either for my country or for the mankind, but still I DEMAND!”. Left-wing radicals and other commies who think like that should be shot right on the spot.

    43. Semaj says:

So many nice pictures here! I am swooning from the “Open page in new tab”, now I have browsing for days!

That is one ugly airplane inside and out, a total waste, they obviously have not had money for very long.

What is with the Czarist stuff? Why is that on the plane? The Czar is dead for like 90 years. His family is dead. That is a dead symbol.

Will Russia ever have a Czar again? Perhaps Putin?

      • No since russians czarists (political party) think that Putin is a scumbag. They don’t want someone from the Romanoc dynasty since they are all dead. They want someone from tghe previous dynasty back, the Riuriks. Their is a survivor, descendant of czar Ivan The Terrible. He is praised by russian imperialist and is known to be an “underground oligarch”

      • And twin headed eagle is symbol of russian power and unity…not just a czarist symbol

I am Russian-American who lives in US. I’ve read most of the comments left by people who obviously don’t know what they are saying. It is very impolite to argue things like that which one has no knowledge of. It only depicts how stupid one looks when arguing about things one does not know. Please refrain from commenting on how Russia is and how America is. It is obvious that these are two different continents and countries all together. When Russians look at Americans they laugh at them the same way Americans laugh at president’s plane because it is unknown to them, and thus does not look too smart. Please read the history of nations and you may understand cultures more vividly than just looking at pictures and leaving uneducated comments.
