Russian Cranes Fall Down

No, there were no hurricane in Russia these days as it was throughout all the Europe.
Just for some unknown reason three cranes at once in different Russian cities, St. Petersburg, Novgorod and Surgut decided to fall down.
Maybe they were tired to wait for the hurricane and decided to act by themselves, or maybe it’s just a sign to construct companies to check the equipment regularly.
Who knows.

My Russian friends use to tell me that Russian building and construction projects were notoriously unstable. Since cheating in Russian universities is so widespread, architectural students often graduate without knowing much. The next thing you know, these students graduate and are assigned a project to design a building. The building gets constructed, only to fall down a short time later.
Your Russian “friends”? Sounds funny) Those whom you give your head to?

The pictures speak for themselves.
It’s funny how the crane broke the back of that Kia, but the frame (if not the roof) of that merc seems to have held up

Your post speaks that you are just one from a lot of stupid americoses. Do u really think that the reason why this accidents were is a as-someone-said-you bad knowledge of russian architectural students, which as-you-think are driving cranes in Russia?
+2Texas1:
I mean, New Orlean’s flooding was as result of weakness of dam, that was designed by stupid american engineers, but the main reason why a crane falls down is the wrong actions of a crane operator (not architect).
Don`t you know that New Orleans was attacked by terrorist Katrina? lol
But he does make a good point regarding cheating. That is something that can’t be denied. But rarely do students graduate and go straight into work, they usually do an internship where they have to learn on the job and prove themselves prior to being trusted with big jobs…
Lol, Texas1, where your “friends” are learning? I have friends, which are studying to be architectors, and i can say, that they will be real specialists, i haven’t seen buildings in Russia, which can fall down or are falling down.
So, one part of my future specialization is “engineer”, may be I or my friends can have an internet game with your friends? A name of game will be - Strength of materials, and it will show who is the best)))). lol
2JustMe:
If the dam has been designed right, the Katerina’s attack did not cause the flooding. So don’t lol, just “think different” =)
2andrevv:
You missed the point. I totally agree that enhancing the dams could prevent flooding.
2JustMe:
sorry =)
I’m just repeating what other Russians say about the quality of graduates from Russian universities. Basically, they say you have to leave Russia to get an education that will be respected in Russia. They say that there is too much cheating and the quality of the college graduates in Russia isn’t very good.
May be it is true about colleges (in our country this word often means an institue with low edcation level) but not about universities. But it may be of course my opinion, but all of universities i’ve seen and i can enter, where our future engineers are learning, there is very high level of education.
Texas1 - have you ever head about any russian university? Any?
TTLSD,
I’m not trying to flame you, just Nopasaran. Yes, of course I have heard of Russian Universities. I know that they are very, very difficult to get into.
Actually, TTLSD (WTF is that supposed to mean? WWII pistol on drugs?), *I* have. In fact, my undergrad degree is from one. One small detail to illustrate Texas1 point: cheating on an exam in Russia would cause ya to flunk that course, at worst (a wink and a nod from the prof, often times). Ditto for plagiarizing (that’s the proper term for “downloading papers”, “скачивать рефераты”). On the other hand, I have personally arranged for my student to get booted out of school for plagiarism (the U. I teach at), and the policy sez, same punishment for cheating. And ya gonna be tellin’ me there more cheating Stateside? Nah, those who try it, don’t survive.
Cheating do exist, if it can be called so, I often witness it personally. I dont think it is very good, but it is not lethal. Exams happen to be failed by some students, but you have to be a really dumb asshole to get thrown out to the street when you`re already in - if you educate for free (state pays), to get to respected high education institute you will have to take some extremly hardcore entrance examination, that is almost impossible to pass with the basic school knowledge. But if you got in, after some time it becomes unprofitable to throw you out - because of the money already spent on you. Free education maybe somewhat drags the quality down, and it is not always “free”, but the high education here is not complete when you leave university - because of the same reason, huge amount of graduates, you get enormous pool of educated workforce, so it`s often up to employer to polish the skills. So, if you really want to get yourself a good job, you still have to be the best among the many.
That Mercedes W123 didn’t deserve a death like that.
“Cheating do exist, if it can be called so”
WTF else do you call it? “Alternative knowledge access”? No shit, Sherlock.
“I often witness it personally”
As a student, I presume?
“I dont think it is very good, but it is not lethal”
Sure as hell dilutes the standards, if you ask me.
“but you have to be a really dumb asshole to get thrown out to the street when you`re already in”
Which is the WHOLE FUCKING PROBLEM! The system breeds mediocrity: would you really trust your life to a barely-OK surgeon or pilot?
“you will have to take some extremly hardcore entrance examination”
Irrelevant. But still an interesting point: how the hell University takes the cream of the crop, and turns ‘em into mediocrity?
“after some time it becomes unprofitable to throw you out - because of the money already spent on you”
Herein lies the rub: WHOSE money? *MY* money (We ARE talking about State-sponsored ed, are we?). I’d say, don’t throw good money after bad, kick the bastards out NOW! Same for cheating: busted once, VERY stern talk at the Dean’s office; busted again, you’re out on your ass flipping burgers.
“high education here is not complete when you leave university”
You bet your ass it ain’t. Given that in my field Russia is some 20 to 30 years behind the developed world (nobody gives a shit, as long as oil sells… until biofuel production matures, that is), and so are the concepts taught (I, personally, had to re-learn genetics and much of environmental microbiology, and learn genetic engineering anew), employers are forced to mend the gaps, so to speak.
“because of the same reason, huge amount of graduates, you get enormous pool of educated workforce”
Same thing Stateside: every Tom, Dick and Harry got a U. diploma (in liberal arts, like underwater basket weaving), and I an struggling to find employees with something resembling a brain, who can actually DO shit.
My point here… aw, fuck that, I don’t have one.
Aw shit, way too ultra-right-wing for me to cope with.
w00t.
cynical bastard
Errr… Your english is impossible to understand for me in its full meaning))). Please sorry, but 2 years its too small period to be able write like you and give my opinion clearly.
“Actually, TTLSD (WTF is that supposed to mean? WWII pistol on drugs?)” - lol, it just my nick, and nothing else. Don’t you think it is imossible to create nick just from A,B,C,D…?
My question about russian universities has only positive character., i just want to know, what people think about them in other countries.
“And ya gonna be tellin’ me there more cheating Stateside? Nah, those who try it, don’t survive.” - where have yow read that in my posts?
“undergrad’ - undergraduate - does it means that you’ve finished russian school? I haven’t understood you again, sorry.
I don’t want to tell you, that cheating and errr… “plagiarizing????” is good. It is very strange to think so.
And I also think tha in Russia education isn’t finishing on getting a diploma. What will you do in fast changing world, where we don’t know what wait us in future?
And, please, write your next posts in literature English, because another way - to learn Russian, if you want to know more. Oh, of course it not profitable to you - learn Russian.
Извините, а почему у вас тут написано - желтые яблоки, если на витрине они белые?
Да, они просто еще зеленые.
Sorry, why there’s a table - “Yellow apples”, but they are white?
Because they are green.
TT - a Red Army issue pistol
LSD - we all know what that is
And, y’know, TTLSD, yer lack of knowledge of the real-life English (as opposed to that Shakespearian/Dickensian crap still taugh in HS all over Russia: Слышали мы этих Битлов, хреновый у них английский - пять учителей слушали, и ни один ни фига не понял) ain’t none of my problems. BTW, before ya rag on me fer not knowin’ any Russian, ya need to work on yer damn English: I know, mine ain’t perfect, but yours… I am fuckin’ speechless…
Кстати, феню про яблоки (только там фигурировала смородина) я прочитал еще в детстве, в журнале “Веселые Картинки”. И не стыдно, TTLSD, такой большой, а? Пора бы за “Мурзилку” браться…
Ya got that “undergrad” part, btw, I did go to a Russian U. Wow, Sherlock, you figgered it out by yerself? So, I speak from experience: cheating is endemic (fortunately for me, in my days you couldn’t download a paper just like that, so my generation gets more respect), and whatever I learnt there was not because, but rather in spite of the system (and thanks to the folks that spent summers guiding my independent research projects).
“i just want to know, what people think about them in other countries.”
Whaddya think they think? Moscow State, the only Russian U. in the top 100 just drifted from semi-relevant to totally irrelevant ratings (bottom quarter, I reckon). Speaks volumes, ain’t it?
Gone away crying.
Крутой ты перец, я ж сказал что по-английски ни бум-бум, даже в школе не учил, а ты наезжаешь ;(.
Лучше скажи, сколько тебе заплатили?
@cynical bastard
Of course if you are not a native speaker it is very cool to use slang. (Типа бисер перед свиньями, андерстенд нах?) I thought Murzilka tought to love your native country, but Russia does not seem to be yours, isn’t it?
А шо, TTLSD, платят? “И где же я могу получить свою долю?”
Nopasaran: what-fucking-ever. I *happened* to have been born in Russia, but the kind of culture I can best relate to is that of Texas Gulf Coast (south of Galveston, to be sure) - and having trouble relating to verbal (and intestinal) outpourings of random alcoholics, bakshish-begging bureaucrats, military that wanted to steal two years of my life and other manifestation of the mysterious Russian soul. Ya gonna blame me for that? Go ahead, see if I give a flying fuck.
Cynical bastard, I believe you are cynical enough not to give a flying fuck about knowing that someone wants to make you give one.
“My Russian friends use to tell me that Russian building and construction projects were notoriously unstable. Since cheating in Russian universities is so widespread, architectural students often graduate without knowing much. The next thing you know, these students graduate and are assigned a project to design a building. The building gets constructed, only to fall down a short time later.”
Don’t knock what you don’t know for a fact. Russian education is at a VERY high level, considerably higher than the education provided in North America. The reason accidents (in buildings) happen is not due to lack of knowledge, it’s due to lack of funding. As buildings are constructed, the workers get paid very little (if at all), bribery occurs left and right, and materials simply disappear. When this happens, they get replaced - just not always by the right thing. When a third of the cement goes missing, the other two thirds get diluted enough to cover the loss - this is the real problem, not lack of education.
Yurka, give it a rest. It is a well known fact that the United States and England have the best universities in the world. Furthermore, if your education is so great then why is the average Russian IQ so far below the average IQ of United States citizens?
I think you need wake up and stop dreaming. At the very least, quit wishing on falling stars, hammers and sickles. Your effort is obviously not getting you anywhere.
Hey cynical bastard,
I read that you live around Galveston. If you are ever up in Dallas/Fort Worth you’ve got a place to stay. If nothing else, I would love to buy you a drink sometime. It sounds like you’ve got some interesting stories.
TTLSD,
In my experience, this is what I have seen. For the most part, employers do not value a degree from a 3rd world country. I think some companies tested the waters, especially with universities in India and got burned. It seems like it takes 5-10 Indians to complete a software project that 1 American can do in the same amount of time and with fewer bugs.
Having said that, I know of some Russian girls who are programmers at JP Morgan. They were recruited from Russia but had a proven track record in the banking industry. They completed their masters degrees here in the US.
Actually, I know quite a few Russians that were recruited from Russia to work in the banking industry. So maybe in certain industries, when there is a large demand for workers with a specific skill set you might get lucky and land a job outside of Russia.
TexasMF said: if your education is so great then why is the average Russian IQ so far below the average IQ of United States citizens?
——————–
Oh those stupid americoses… Do u really think that this test and its results really show the truth I mean brain power, knowledge etc. of people? a little hint for americoses and their asslickers: what you think about the test’s methodology? I mean, it is very easy to make this test with 100 persons from Garward for USA and with 100 rednecks for Russia. Ha-ha, how you think what the results you have in this case? =)
in Australia we got Unies that are difficult and easy to study at. The ones that are difficult to study at are known to be country’s best and their diplomas are internationally recognized. I suppose same goes for other countries out there: Russia, UK, USA. ie you can go to a shit uni and get shit education in any country, but once you get to a prestigious uni, you have to work your ass off. or in another words - you work hard, you get rewarded well.
Therefore, these debates about which country’s education is better are just stupid.

И как же там жизнь, на этом техасском поле для гольфа?))) Никто не пьет, все спокойно и мирно, в армию не зовут, государство не давит? Ну просто рай для ленивцев, I don’t want to say that our economy and situation in coutry is better than in US, it is evident who is on top, but what about education? It is my own opinion, i live in Moscow, that level of education is high. So how can we measure it?
Texas1 - our IQ level is lower, really? Where have you found this information? Oh, today Russia is in 3rd world country? Some years before our countries were fighting in the sphere of high technologies and now do you think we’ve forgotten all of this, lost technologies and base of theory?
India))) This country has its own big history of culture and had own way of development. Not so long time ago they decided to make progress in the field of new technologies. And now it is evident, that progress exist, when you are comparing them with americans where a level of life is much higher then in India. And as i know today in India development of science is growing and becoming faster. Many new mathematic theories are made in India.
“Having said that, I know of some Russian girls who are programmers at JP Morgan. They were recruited from Russia but had a proven track record in the banking industry. They completed their masters degrees here in the US.” - russian girls-programmers lol lol :DD They’ve appeared only in US. Of course, how do you think, will you take a person on work if you don’t know what is his education level, but if he (or she) has a US degree - there will be no questions about it.
“So maybe in certain industries, when there is a large demand for workers with a specific skill set you might get lucky and land a job outside of Russia.’ - what does it mean? FUCK you!
Sorry, Texas1, I *used* to live south of Galveston (waaaay south - Corpus Christi area). Not anymore, regretably. Doubt I’ll be DFW way anytime soon.
Now, if YOU find yourself in Jackson, MS (ugh!), same offer applies
TTLSD: *WHAT* about education? I gave you the facts:
1. Cheating is commonplace, and nobody gives a flying fuck
2. Program is 20-30 years behind
3. “but you have to be a really dumb asshole to get thrown out to the street when you`re already in” - that’s straight from your post, breeds mediocrity
4. Moscow State U., the ONLY Russian U rated in the top 100, slid down to #79. St Pete State, #164. For comparison, U. Texas - Austin, #32, Texas A&M (A&M, for dog’s sake, Agricultural and Mechanical!), #125. Here: http://world-university-ranking.com/?gclid=CM2P_Nve9okCFRgYgQodwVC1PQ
Totally forgot earlier: 5. Bribing professors for passing grades is not unusual, either.
And, the personal experience: 6. Anything I learned, I did in spite of the system.
What’s more to say?
Andrew:
If you are so smart, why are you so poor?
Actually, if you are so smart:
1. What’s “Garward”?
2. There are rednecks in Russia?
He-he… Do you really think that all people in ex-USSR are poor? Your speech is a speech of typical immigrant which was a looser in his/her ex-country.
About my English: it is not my native language, so and of course I can make some mistakes and only sophist can focus on the grammatical errors rather than the sense of speech. You just have nothing to say on the merits!
OK, andrew, let me rephrase my statement in small words, the kind that you can comprehend:
If you (collective “you”, as in “people of Russia collectively”) are so smart (referencing your statement about higher average IQ - again, population average - which I accept for the purpose of argument), then why are you (collective “you”) so poor? And I mean poor: per-capita GDP between Lebanon and Uruguay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)_per_capita), per capita income (averaging between an underpaid school teacher and that whore, what’s his name, busted in France) around $3000 (http://www.cdi.org/russia/johnson/9123-8.cfm).
A few oligarchs? Sure, they are excessively rich. So fucking what? Not like they make any difference statistically.
cynical bastard
And what are you proud of? I suppose you had to choose between Israel and US…
Nopasaran, would you like me to drop my pants to prove you wrong? And why such a hangup on Jews? What, are you feeling inadequate or something? Small penis, perhaps?
As for pride… I am not proud of anything. In fact, I am ashamed by the fact, that in Russia a former Commie whore can make millions selling oil and skilled scientists have to go elsewhere to make a decent living. I am ashamed that young men are snatched in the street and sold into slavery (aka Russian Army). I am ashamed that thoroughly medieval notion of “baksheesh” permeates the whole culture. I am ashamed that a former Gestapo… er, KGB man is the president of Russia. Would you like to hear more things I am ashamed about?
Well, OK, there is one thing I can be proud of: the fact that I was able to get off my big fat ass and go seek a better life elsewhere… and that I was able to achieve a certain status in the new culture. But for that - no thanks to you.
2CB:
You remind me one immigrant with whom I spoke a few monthes ago face-to-face, he had not been his ex-home (Moscow) since the early 1990s (suitcase->airport->Israel->USA). The same speech: o-o-o blah-blah-blah all in Russia are bad etc. …
My advise to you is just do not trust any statistics, I think you know from your ex-USSR’s expirience that it is a slut. Just visit your ex-home and look that standard of living is increasing and middle-class is growing… ok I go to sleep, see you tommorow.
2 cynical bastard
If YOU (as the only person I’m talking about) are so sure about the quality of your higher education tell me why there is so many exchange students and phd workers with strange surnames and even names in US? have you ever read Kurt Vonnegut’s “BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS”? He explained it rather clearly why poor countries has well educated people and why reach countries buy those specialists from poor countries
Andrew:
“My advise to you is just do not trust any statistics”
I don’t: I tend to think for myself. But are you implying that I should trust an opinion (without any data to back it up, to be sure) of some anonymous schmuck on the ‘net, with no established credibility?
renton:
“why there is so many exchange students and phd workers with strange surnames and even names in US”
I’ll tell you why. They probably came there for - drum roll, please - superior education, just like did, and then decided to stay to advance their career. Thank you for making my point. Now, why there aren’t *that* many exchange students and Ph.D. workers in Russia?
Naturally, Mr. Vonnegut is entitled to his opinion, I am entitled to mine: U.S. attracts the best and the brightest PRECISELY because there are opportunities for them. It is not U.S.’s fault that there were no opportunities for environmental molecular biologists in Russia, and the fact that I decided not to do my dissertation on 40 years old equipment, rehashing 30 years old concepts, and instead opted for a place where I can actually discover something new (I did) is not their fault either. And, no, I am not returning to Russia, even at twice the salary and even if I were promised a state of the art lab to run. Mentality, you know, is incompatible with mine.
cynical bastard -
1. Cheating is commonplace, and nobody gives a flying fuck - really? And where you’ve got information about US universities? And is cheating the main reason of crisis in the world? Is it so global and important? And is the system of education good, if cheating persons can do the same like non-cheating one?
2.Programm of education and economy, policy, industrial technology - don’t mesh it together ;).
3.”that’s straight from your post, breeds mediocrity” - where is that my post? Incorrect ;).
4. Moscow State U., the ONLY Russian U rated in the top 100, slid down to #79. St Pete State, #164. - oh yes, and have you seen a criteria, on wich is based on? If our universities are teaching students, have no money to make reach presentations and working often in the field of military (?don’t know how it is correct?) industry - how they can get a place in this rating?
5.Bribing doesn’t exist in your US - do you know why? Because most part of universities is requiring payments from students. Yes, who is reach = who is smart. What about poor citizen? Only genius has a goverment’s help in education. It is not truth?
6.Today Russia is not USSR. If it was so, why you have chosed this specialization? One mistake (of course, great mistake) of dummy head of USSR’s goverment canceled all genetic researches and know you are showing your anger to us. Am i right?
Do yo want to know why we are so poor? It is evident. We should see a base of economy. A climate, an average temperature. It is known that each workplace in industry is requiring 1000-2000$ Why? It is cold. But climate is changing ;).In a past it was absolutely against industry in our country, and in a free economy our country was in 3rd world countries drom the beginning od 20 century, if there were no command system of USSR. Today an average temperature is growing.))) And all of these cataclysms in US…
And… I can remind you about Texas1’s words - nobody from Russia is coming to US and has there a normal profession. They by his meaning can be only whores or something like that. And where are you from. You are a real argument against this.
Jews, russkie - I don’t see a great difference, you were born here, and you are only one who has arguments against our country. What can i say about others on this site - nothing. So, well done, my friend, you aren’t defender of US life, you are an ad for our culture.)))) Think about it.
“And where you’ve got information about US universities?”
Straight from the horse’s mouth: I am a professor, you see?
“And is the system of education good, if cheating persons can do the same like non-cheating one?”
I am having difficulty decostruing this statement. But if you mean what I think you mean, the answer is no, it’s not fucking good.
“where is that my post?”
Oops, it was A_of_A’s post. Apologies.
“how they can get a place in this rating”
Oh, I don’t know. Maybe the same way outfits like Beijing U. and Tsing Hua (both in China) did? By teaching students skills that have some relevance to the world and doing research that are not more than a couple of years behind the time?
“Only genius has a goverment’s help in education.”
My students are no geniuses, and many of them have scholarships. So, no, what you said is definitely not true.
Why did I choose my field? Because I hoped that Russia would become a civilized country that actually needs biologists. So I was wrong… too bad. Time to move on.
And, by the way, I am not a geneticist, I am an environmental microbiologist (with a heavy emphasis on molecular biology).
As for the climate… yeah, right. Look at Finland: started at the same place back in 1917… now, compare today’s Finland and Karelia. Conclusions are obvious, so spare me that Parshev’s bullshit.
Don’t count on global warming to bail you out, either: two degrees increase over the next 100 years (in the worst possible case) won’t do much. Now, if we were to accept that, you better start making payments to the U.S., for putting all that carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and improving your climate. Are you ready?
Oops. Moscow State ranked 76 in 2005. It’s at 93 in 2006. Progress, my ass.
I see gummi bears in the dark
@cynical bastard
” And, no, I am not returning to Russia, even at twice the salary and even if I were promised a state of the art lab to run. Mentality, you know, is incompatible with mine.
”
one sentence sums it up “our people… they are of such a kind that if you dont shoot them stright away, they will never understand anything!”
walking on the streets of moscow i repeat this often, and this is supposed to be a friggin capital where the most civilized people reside. now imagine whats going on in provinces
another thing that is killing me - almost everyone in russia smokes and cant stand the smell of it.
“And… I can remind you about Texas1’s words - nobody from Russia is coming to US and has there a normal profession. They by his meaning can be only whores or something like that. And where are you from. You are a real argument against this.”
this is a load of bullshit. you get paid as much as you worth, and if you worth a lot, you get paid a lot.
@Texas1
n my experience, this is what I have seen. For the most part, employers do not value a degree from a 3rd world country. I think some companies tested the waters, especially with universities in India and got burned. It seems like it takes 5-10 Indians to complete a software project that 1 American can do in the same amount of time and with fewer bugs.
Complete bullshit. There where studies done about Indians, and it turns out they are more efficient at repetitive tasks, make fewer errors, and can learn advanced concepts easily, unlike an American graduate. ESPECIALLY when it’s tech-related. That has grown into a problem called “outsourcing” and “competition.” But you don’t care, since you only care about Mexicans taking YOUR jobs away. What is this “typical job”-washing toilets? collecting waste? for how much? $2\hour? Your calling them terrorists?
“Straight from the horse’s mouth: I am a professor, you see?”
Wow, that’s cool. And i am just a student))).
“I am having difficulty decostruing this statement. But if you mean what I think you mean, the answer is no, it’s not fucking good.” It means - if teachers can’t make a difference between a really smart person, who was working hard, and student who cheat with somebody and after it get same notes - the education system is bad.
So, is it true that in our universities students are learning something, that is known for everyone in the world, and our teachers are teaching us old facts, because it is our russian mentalitet’s characteristic?
And is it false, that in US parents should have enogh money to give their children education in college or university?
“And, by the way, I am not a geneticist, I am an environmental microbiologist” - wow, that’s really cool. And i’m just student, 19 years old))).
“today’s Finland and Karelia” - Karelia is not separated country, it is part of Russia, so it can’t have a benefits from its geography to itself.
“Are you ready?” - good joke, yes we are ready, and we are doing so. Money from our stabilizating found has been invested in US economy (we still haven’t understood why our goverment is doing so
).
And what about US living in credit? Is it false that US is borrowing every year money from world currency found, and this summ is estimated in trillions US $?
“Yurka, give it a rest. It is a well known fact that the United States and England have the best universities in the world. Furthermore, if your education is so
great then why is the average Russian IQ so far below the average IQ of United States citizens?
I think you need wake up and stop dreaming. At the very least, quit wishing on falling stars, hammers and sickles. Your effort is obviously not getting you anywhere.
No, it’s well known American propaganda. Go into any serious company in North America, it doesn’t matter what field, you will see that most of the workers
are NOT American/Canadian. Most of them have immigrated from other countries. Education in Russia/Eastern Europe is WAY better than what’s offered here in
North America - and everyone knows this. I came here (to Canada) when I was 9. I had completed grade 3 in Ukraine. Except for English, I sailed my way through all the way to grade 10 - it was an
absolute cake walk. Education here is piss, and I am sorry about that. I’m currently going to a local University, and I’m sorry to say that everything we’re learning is
taught in highscools in Ukraine.
My grade 12 year… There were people in my English Lit. class that read by syllables. They couldn’t read whole words. There were people who didn’t know the multiplication
table in my math 12 class. In Ukraine, all kids know (inside out) the multiplication table half way through grade 1. No, I am not making this up. I know this as a fact,
becase I, and everyone in my class did.
IQ in Russia is lower than in US? Really? First of all, I would love to see the reputable source from which you got this statistic, and second of all, no one outside the US (well… and your
wannabes to the North) gives a flying fuck about “IQ”. IQ is not in ANY way a measure of intelligence - it’s all bullshit, and anyone with half a brain can realize that.
Have you ever lived in Russia/the former Soviet Union? I doubt you did, so don’t argue against something you have no first hard knowledge of. Propaganda is one thing - reality is another. Grow up.
“if teachers can’t make a difference between a really smart person … and student who cheat with somebody”
OK, not quite what I thought it was, but… who gives a shit about professors? They (”we”, me being one of them) are paid to do so. BUT, being able to cheat teaches student that you can slack off, cut corners and still get what you want. Shitty work ethics, I call it. Oh, sorry, I forgot there is no such concept in the Russian language as “work ethics”.
“And is it false, that in US parents should have enogh money to give their children education in college or university?”
False. Two words: Pell grants. If you have half a brain, you can also qualify for a bunch of other scholarships. If you actually have a functioning brain, you can work for a professor and he’ll pay your tuition from his research money (and give you a small stipend, too). Now if you don’t have a brain, you shouldn’t be going to college anyways. But, if you are rich and stupid, you can pay through the nose and support smart and poor kids. That won’t help you in case of terminal stupidity, as lousy grades will still get you booted, unlike in Russia, to be sure. Pull your head out of your ass occasionally, will ya?
“Karelia is not separated country, it is part of Russia”
And that’s THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT! You apparently don’t even know where Karelia is, do you? It is there up north, right next to Finland. Same freeze-ass climate, both were parts of the Russian Empire until 1917. Now, why, explain to me, Finland is a civilized country, and Karelia, just across the border, is fucked up beyond belief? I haven’t seen more desolate places in Mexico or Ivanovo region, but Turkmenistan comes close. “Разруха не в клозетах, разруха в головах”, не находите?
“And what about US living in credit?”
What about it?
“Is it false that US is borrowing every year money from world currency found, and this summ is estimated in trillions US $?”
And your point is? I, personally, borrow about a couple of grand every month. Gee, and they keep on loaning me money. Could it be because I threatened them with a gun? Nah, just because I pay my debts as promised and on time. Nothing wrong with debt, as long as you manage it intelligently.
As to where you keep your “Stabfond” - all the questions to the bastards that YOU have elected (me, I am proud of having never voted in Russia even once). Again, it is not the U.S. fault that your breed of politicos have chosen it as Plan B. Will promise you one thing, though: if Putin and Co. head for the hills stateside, I will personally call my congressmen demanding their extradition for trial. Deal?
You try to be more Catholic than the Pope… A neofit is a hideous person. Your anger makes you like your amoebes dear professor. I understand that ’cause you was just a looser in your ex-home it affected your psyche… I hope you are not very old so you will have a time to rest and stop licking ass of your new masters.
Other words I mean that the World is not black’n'white just think about it.
“Oh, sorry, I forgot there is no such concept in the Russian language as “work ethics”.” This consept is appearing now, because there was no need in it with a command system.
“…Pull your head out of your ass occasionally, will ya?” - Oh, and how many students have grants? And just be more positive, your “ass”,”shit” and “fuck” made me sad about your personal cultural level. And you are a professor and teacher.))). With your help i think students’ve got a higher intellegent education, yes? ;).
“Now, why, explain to me, Finland is a civilized country, and Karelia, just across the border, is fucked up beyond belief?” - because Karelia is just a part of a big country, I said. And I think that is evident - it is easy to make the situation better in a small country, then in biggest one, where exists places, which aren’t so near to the heart of civilization - Europe, and where climate is harder, than in Karelia.(It is near to sea also, and for example Siberia and Ural aren’t). And is it so civilizated, your Finland? Money for exporting walls - is it good? Are there firms manufacturing cars or computers in big volumes, for import?
“And your point is?…” - Your person and US - see a difference, my dear professor?
“to the bastards that YOU have elected” - i haven’t done that, i am still too young. Only 19 years old, if i have questions to your words about “US - good, Russia - shit”, how do you think who will win a discussion if i would be older?
But, of course, it doesn’t matter).
“Will promise you one thing…” - good joke. I want to say you - i don’t have a great sympathy to our current goverment, and i know that kommunism was a great mistake in our past. But we’ve begun our discussion not from this theme, am i right?
Кстати, второй раз за все это время возникла мысль - зачем я на английском строчу, если единственный мой собеседник понимает русский? Для потомков чтоли? Или для уважаемых читателей?
Andrew: I repeat my earlier statement: what-fucking-ever. I imagine that a slave has a difficulty visualizing people living, you know, without masters. Then again, there is no word for “liberty” in Russian language. Just a thought…
TTLSD, yeah, m’friend, ya write in English for posterity. So that others can point a finger at’cha and laugh.
“Oh, and how many students have grants?”
By my rough guesstimate, 70% or more. Find your own stats, if you don’t like mine.
“And just be more positive, your “ass”,”shit” and “fuck” made me sad about your personal cultural level.”
As Eric Cartman once said, “What’s the big fucking deal? It doesn’t hurt anybody. Fuck-fuckity-fuck-fuck-fuck.” Then again, when you are in the middle of the ocean trying to get some work done, and research vessel costs you big bucks every day, and the weather wouldn’t let you launch your gear, and once the weather starts cooperating you discover that you need to return to port because A-frame hydraulics are leaking, and your student mislabeled a whole rack of tubes, and autosampler got shaken into pieces during the storm… you get to learn to curse - and enjoy it, too - really quick.
“because Karelia is just a part of a big country, I said … it is easy to make the situation better in a small country”
Bullshit. Look at Canada. Ever been to Canadian Arctic? Look at Alaska.
“And is it so civilizated, your Finland?”
Sure as hell, people there enjoy higher standard of living.
“Money for exporting walls - is it good?”
I presume, by “walls” you mean “bookcases”. I could have countered by saying “Money for exporting oil - is it good?”. Then again, you apparently never heard of Nokia, Waartsilaa, Valmet, Kone, Fiskars, Ahlstrom. I rest my case.
And where did I say “Russia - shit”? I said it’s pretty fucked up and needs fixing - totally different concept. I also pointed out U.S. model as a possible pattern that worked time and again. Noooo, they want their own unique way to accomodate for the mysterious Russian soul. Well, fine, you built what you wanted: kleptocratic feudalism, and quite a few people seem happy about it. *I* am not: fuck that. Rephrasing Ostap Bender (no relation to the famous robot): “Шура, они строят клептократический феодализм, а я не хочу.” Quoting Eric Cartman again: “Screw you guys, I’m going home.”
“By my rough guesstimate, 70% or more. Find your own stats, if you don’t like mine.” - sorry, i can’t. How have you done your guesstimate?
“So that others can point a finger at’cha and laugh.”- pulic has already forgotten about us.
“Eric Cartman” - who is he? From a cartoon? Oh, is it new ideal or a real american dream?
“A-frame hydraulics are leaking…and so on” - may be the right way - to stop an evolution and to live in jungles? There is warm, no problems…
“Bullshit. Look at Canada. Ever been to Canadian Arctic? Look at Alaska.” - and what? In Canada there is same situation, it is depending on US goverment decision. Why? All, what they do - transporting their minerals, wood across a border to US. The main aim - be good slave for reach US. Does a democracy exist? If US want to get everything from Canada - they will get it.
Alaska - part of US. What will it have without help from other states? And a question - when Us will take it to Russia back? We are waiting :).
I’ve known only Nokia. Other companies’s good is may be too expensive for russian citizen.
“needs fixing - totally different concept” - i have nothing against that, it needs. Don’t you think that i’m absolutely happy with current situation in Russia? You just came near to words “Russia - shit” by the way, when you were telling about our education system.
“Money for exporting oil - is it good?” - no, i don’t think so, and i’ll never think so.
“I also pointed out U.S. model” - but there is no model, which is full adoptable to any coutry. It is evident, that Russia can’t start doing the same with US, because exist a difference. Noooo, not in mentalitet, in basis, that we have in the beginning of this century. And, one fact. After 1991 russian goverment got recommendations from UN (where US is leader) which policy in economic we should have, and our goverment doing what was said. And what has happened? We were in crisis, we are in crisis, we will be in crisis. And our economists (and economists form other countries) today are showing mistakes in reccomendations to our goverment, but it still believes them. And we are going straight to US recommendations. Where is our industry today? In a deep ass. So what else can you say me about - Russia go by way of US to the happiness?
Прошу все-таки прощения за мой английский. Плохо я его знаю.
“How have you done your guesstimate”
Pulled it out of my ass. You have a better way?
“Alaska - part of US. What will it have without help from other states?”
You got it, Einstein. Now, explain to me, why Alaska (being a freeze-ass region of a larger country) is prosperous, while Chukotka (being a freeze-ass region of another large country, just across Bering Strait from Alaska) is nowhere near? And remember, I brought those areas up in response to your statement re: Karelia vs. Finland.
“And a question - when Us will take it to Russia back? We are waiting”
Never. First, it was sold fair and square. Second, you fucked up your Far East, and you think anyone would let you fuck up what it still a pristine state? Ha! Keep waiting.
“when you were telling about our education system”
And I stand by my words: TODAY’S educational system in Russia is NFG (not fucking good), see university ratings above.
“I’ve known only Nokia. Other companies’s good is may be too expensive for russian citizen.”
Yeah, Waartsilaa builds bigass ship diesels. But you got my point, Finland does not just “export furniture”.
“but there is no model, which is full adoptable to any coutry.”
Worked everywhere from Germany to S. Korea, why wouldn’t work in Russia? Mysterious Russian soul? People spoiled by gov’t freebies? The fact that the gov’t policy for 70 years was to eliminate independent hardworking individual? Failure to string a bunch of commies and Gestapo… I mean, KGB, men from lampposts? I don’t know, but I suspect the last one: Germany was thoroughly de-Nazified in the 40s, and things went smoothly from then on.
“Where is our industry today? In a deep ass”
Precisely where it should be. One example: VAZ is still building knockoffs of 1960’s FIAT, priced at “you gotta be fucking kidding me” level (that 2110 piece of shit sells for $10K?). First transverse front wheel drive hatchback didn’t appear until late 1980s (2108 Zubilo), while I drove 1979 VW Rabbit that had fuel injection, transverse motor, automatic transmission, front wheel drive, hatchback, and, being 18 years old, handled a LOT better than a brand new 2108 that my Dad was insane enough to buy. Build something that people actually want to buy, at the price they are willing to pay, and then you’ll start talking about industry.
“Pulled it out of my ass. You have a better way?” - So,results are depending only on where are you teaching. How do you think, is situation same everuwhere? I’m not sure.
“being a freeze-ass region of a larger country” - but other parts of US? Don’t forget about a question - what will be with Aljaska, if it wasn’t part of US? US + Aljaska = union with positive effect. And Aljaska is only one state in US with such hard climate. And what about Chukotka? It is an ordinary part of Russia, where more than half of country have same climate and average temperature. What will be with Aljaskam if 25 states from US have snowing in winter like in Siberia, and don’t tell me that Siberia - small part of Russia ;), it is really big.
I just want to tell you about Karelia and Chukotka - if Karelia was a country (not a part of Russia) and Chukotka had really working economy behind it (like US with it climate) you won’t see there a difference between them and Finland and Aljaska. And where is exit? To make from Karelia separate country? No, it is impossible. It will be part of Russia, and nobody will give a decision to do so.
“it was sold fair and square” - i have information that it lended on the time. And smile after words means - it was a joke. ;).
This rating don’t make me sure. Is he adequate? - this is question for me.
“But you got my point” - ok, ok, but is evident today that nowadays Finland may be a victim of giant (like US
). Ans don’t tell me, that is time for peace today. What is going now in Iraq - a fact against that.
“Germany to S. Korea” - can see difference between S. Korea and Russia? And please, read my posts slowly, because you are missing my arguments.
“Germany was thoroughly de-Nazified” - yes, but communism wasn’t attaced by all world, this theory hasn’t such impossible ways of developing like nazism.
“Precisely where it should be…” - dear professor, is my previous post understandable for you? About what are you talking? You are giving me themes, i answer on your questions, but you aren’t playing fair play.
На черта мне всем известные факты о наших дерьмовых машинах, ты чего? Ускользываешь от фактов, господин профессор. И это уже не первый раз. Ай-ай-ай.
“is my previous post understandable for you”
Oh, I’m sorry, I guess yer English (the “wall”, my ass) is too atrocious for me to comprehend (see the quote above). Let’s continue this debate after you actually learn some, for I sense my own skills deteriorate as I talk to ya. Hurts my brain, too. One last thing for you to ponder, though, why Alaska has working economy behind it, and Chukotka doesn’t?
