Rostov City Fish Market
In Russia there are two Rostov cities. One is a small town somewhere near Moscow and another is Rostov-On-Don a large Southern Russian city standing on the wide Don river and was called Rostov-the-Dad on criminal slang in Soviet times.
Just because it stands on the major river it has plenty of fish available there so there is a special fish market located next to the big local church where you can buy not just regular fish but easily get some species that belong to Internationa Red List of Endangered Species and it is cheap. And of course you can get Russian caviar, packed in just plastic boxes as much as you want. And it is cheap too.

that’s not a caviar, it’s just a dangerous substitute, after eating it you will spend on doctors more than the genuine caviar costs

Pretty tame compared to a Japanese or Chinese fish market but interesting nonetheless!
These are great photos, we adopted our son from Rostov-On-Don, he loves seeing pictures of the town he was born in. Thanks so much for posting these.

There is the city of Rostov-On-Don which is named after the town of Rostov. People in Rostov-On-Don refer to the city as just Rostov. When they do it makes it confusing. So the people of Rostov will some times call themselves: Rostov Veliky or Rostov the Great. Rostov is a very old town dating to before 862 AD. It’s Kremlin is well worth a visit.
Once a major town of the Kievian Rus. Rostov is now a quiet place on the shore of Lake Nero.
I like to visit the town for a quiet relaxing weekend.
As for Rostov-On-Don you see the fish market and it is nice city to visit.

Rostov is also famous for his celebrity serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, so mad and ferocious that Hannibal Lecter paled in comparison.. and btw eating raw fish is an idiot idea without frozen-processing it first, there are nasty and dangerous parasites living in fishes..

Marco, it is not raw fish, it is salted and dried fish, but fish is very fat and seems like raw)). It’s rare fish named Shamaika is very, very tasty!!! And it not dangerous.
