Russian smugglers… well, it could be, but i have my doubts. Actually, they could as well just be some old discarded makarovs and… what are the latter, brownings? cz’s? okay, anyway, our police forces should be receiving their new USPs any day now, perhaps as a christmas present :P

    2. humanoid says:

I saw these photographs several months ago. We were told these guns are from Estonian military warehouses- not confiscated from smugglers. They were cut up based on the [flawed] theory that they might fall into the hands of criminals. But that isn’t relevant.

It was wasteful to cut them up for scrap metal. American firearm collectors would have paid many times more than any European scrap dealer. Tokarev and Makarov pistols are both very popular in the USA.

They retail for between $150 and $350 USD here (depends on specific model, maker, year, etc.), so I imagine the Estonian government could sell them for at least $20 a piece to a big USA import company. It is a typical government waste of money.

    3. ^ Well, I reckon importing ex-criminal/stolen/etc./ guns into America maybe a bit difficult.

    4. Steph says:

Yeah–I did wonder why all the guns looked in new condition and all the same model in each bin. Your explanation makes sense, humanoid.

    5. Oh shit. At first I didn`t notice this “confiscated from Russian smugglers”.

Pure bullshit. Those are soviet army`s weapons, stored in Estonia.
      Moderator = FAIL. AGAIN.

    6. [...] Russian Weapons Destroyed By Estonian Customs [...]

    7. spitzer says:

Tokarevs are in the second bin…, what a shame, they would fetch some $ in US…

    8. Rayan Åberg says:

Complete waste of perfectly usable weapons. F**k Estonia for destroying such products. I just hate it when a product gets produced and then just destroyed for nothing.

    9. geekWithA.45 says:

So sad, indeed, all those perfectly good handguns getting zapped. I’ve been looking for a 52 myself.

How many of those you bet made it into some of those guys pockets?

    10. dim says:

yes whoever wrote this story- try again

    11. Björn says:

did anyone though about the good deed done that comes with destroying a handgun?

every single one can kill. good go Estonia, for making the handguns fewer. this counts where ever they come from, smugglers or estonian storages… and yes, there will be enough left for every collector out there.

    12. mike says:

i agree burn them all for scape metal, we don’t need more guns in our world. does the usa need more then 9,000 nuclear warheads? no of course not.

    13. Nick says:

      Buzzzz!
      Wrong again!
      Russian smugglers, my foot…
Always blame Ruskies. Like Jews, they are always the culprits, right?

I saw these photos before under the heading “Estonian military destroys old Soviet arsenals” or some crap like that.

To the moron who published this - check your sources first…

    14. monsewage says:

I thought it was a waste too, until I realized that maybe these Estonians know their country better than I do.

Perhaps the corruption is so bad that guns approved for re-sale to the US market (where they would fetch US$20 each) can easily be diverted to an illegal arms vendor for US$25 each.

    15. pld says:

I don’t think this would be possible in Estonia these days. 10 years ago, perhaps, but not now. Crates of weapons don’t just ‘disappear’ in an EU country. I agree with mike and disagree with the guys who whine about nice handguns going to waste. Firearms are dangerous and the less there are, the better. Sure they could have been offloaded to US for $$$, but who guarantees that none of them end up in the hands of a drug dealer; a kid who shoots his brother after snatching the gun from his father’s cabinet; or a hot-headed wife as a quick fix for a family dispute? Fuck guns.

    16. Doug says:

The top photo shows Makarov pistols. My father has one, and carrys it sometimes(he has a concealed carry permit). I shot it last summer, a great shooter! Easy trigger pull, managable recoil.

The second photo shows pistols packed in cosmoline - that brown grease used for long term storage.

The third photo shows Tokarev pistols. They shoot the same round that the wartime PPsh-41 submachine gun shot.

I believe that it was not wise to destroy them in such a manner, but of course, I am an American.

    17. kung-fu says:

Makarov and TT are bullshit enough to destroy without compunction.

      • Kung Poo says:

I have no experience with Tokarevs, but I do with the Makarov. When theses were first imported into the US, most dealers said the same thing you do, that they were junk. 15 years later, they know better. No, they’re not pretty, never had a real good finish on the metal, but they are a very robust and reliable firearm that has stood the test of time. It’s a 1951 design that has been in use in most Eastern Bloc countries until just recently. I’ve fired thousands of rounds through my 3 Makarovs and have had a total of ONE malfunction over a period of ten years. Most people I know of who own them have had similar experiences. These guns rarely fail. Maintenance is extremely simple, parts are easy to replace when they are finally needed, and they are extremely accurate for their size. Come back when you actually know what you’re talking about.

    18. Oleg says:

“Makarov and TT are bullshit enough to destroy without compunction.” - Theese are the most sustainable guns, your weapons blind in because of sant and water all the time!

    19. Lalalala says:

It´s just you gun crazy americans that don´t want to destroy weapons, because you need them to kill yourself. Well, go ahead, the world would be a better place!

      Fuck the south!

      • g3shooter says:

No, Britain has a handgun ban and has actually seen a SURGE in violent crime. Same with Australia.

Many Americans(myself included)collect old firearms, I personally like American .45s and Russian firearms.

What is with the hatred for Americans, we don’t hate Russia or Ukraine. Communism was a horrible and brutal system, now that good has prevailed over evil can’t we all just get along?

    20. kung-fu says:

“Theese are the most sustainable guns…”
Bulshit again, if can say so, you know not much about weapons.

    21. a russian says:

I absolutely agree with people who said that it was stupid to destroy these guns instead of exporting all of them to states. So killing each over would be cheaper for them. But well I’m not going to blame these stubborn estonians because brainless ppl are punished by nature.

BTW I have a strong feeling that this blog belongs to a (former) Ukranian. Many of ukranians are very sick by rusophobia the same way like the owner of the blog.

    22. To those saying”Good on Estonia for destroying weapons”, think again! the only reason they scrapped old soviet munitions is because they are converting their police/military handgun to the NATO standards. They replaced all of these with HK or some such.

    23. Boris says:

For those of you who believe\are brainwashed by NATO, read this:
      http://www.johmann.net/usenet/factory.html

Why convert to NATO weapons when there are perfectly good Russian-produced weapons? Are they against Russia?

-I am writing this from an anonymous proxy http://tor.eff.org to protect my identity.-

      • Cal says:

They’re converting to NATO weapons for ammunition standardization. The logistics of a military alliance are much smoother if all the members use interchangable ammo.

    24. Jim says:

Ah, what a shame. The Tokarevs look like a recent production - the grips have no stars.

Fine weapon - I have 3 of them.

    25. Big Gay Al says:

That’s too bad. In stead of making money, Estonia has to spend money to destroy a viable product. They could have easily made $100.00 or more on each pistol, if they had sold them to a US arms importer.

Everyone who REALLY knows firearms, knows that Russian Makarovs are among the best made pistols in the world. And while the Tokarev has it’s faults, it’s still a good pistol, and a desired collectible.

      Oh well.

    26. >Makarov and TT are bullshit enough to destroy without compunction.

Honey, if you don’t know a shit about weaponry it doesn’t mean everyone should know it.

Makarov is actually the same in construction as James Bond’s Walther PPK, and it is a compact, reliable and easily maintained pistol.

The fact that Tokarev TT-33 has been copied by the Chinese is itself a valid proof that it is a worthy gun.

    27. chris says:

      those are sum nice guns
      but ive seen better

    28. Holy Smokes. As an American AND a Gun collector I would have gladly paid 150$+ EACH one. What a waste. Does Estonia even think about these things?

    29. Happy Farkle says:

pld: you’d be surprised what could disappear, how much and where. You probably trust your local JBT’s/police/swat over fellow citizenry; in WW2 you might’ve sold your pussy to the nazi’s for a can of soup.

    30. CanAm says:

They were destroyed as a contract requirement with HK. They sold HK USP’s cheap on the condition that the guns were destroyed.

    31. g3shooter says:

NOOOOOO, I am not a criminal and would have loved to give those firearms a new home. They would make fine target pieces and collectables.

    32. Dev says:

They should have resold all those weapons instead of distroying them, what a waste.

    33. Gunslinger says:

Well dumb estonian fucks, these were POLISH made Tokarevs, they bring $400 in condition like that. These were TOP of the line WW2 collectible guns. They are polish and that is why they do not have stars on them, production was about 50 years ago. Makarovs look Bulgarian to me and would have sold for about $300 new as pictured. Fucking idiotic savages loosing out huge by destroying those guns. This kind of money is paid for the recent production top brand guns! Those were highly collectible pieces. Of course you dumb fucks from estonia are stupid enough not to translate and understand what you had and what you could have had for it. So screw you for destroying firearms history!!!!

    34. Mixas says:

      the other ones are TT

    35. Blast says:

Send them my way! I’ll take them off Estonia’s hands *gladly*.

    36. YJ says:

Sell it to America we want to buy it.

    37. experienceso says:

these are makarovs and those guns are piece of shit they aim like russia and the shoot like russia

    38. kristjan says:

I am an estonian, but my eyes bleed when i watch all those pistols going into the scrap metal, completely broken up by machinery, some (quarter, half or even more?) were preserved, and unused, in oil paper (you know, the oily paper, wich those leave the factory.
When i saw it in the news, half an hour of curses and borderline psychotic anger followed. Those… guns… why?

    39. meanbug says:

      Makarow isn’t a handgun- it’s a throwing weapon!
