Parts of USSR
So in order to clarify a little bit what countries were in the USSR we have some photos.
People of those countries fill themselves now independent but formerly were referred as “Soviet People”.
Most of them still know Russian language almost perfectly.
So the list of the counties:

First goes Russia. It was the biggest part of USSR in terms of territory and population.
Russia was the most Northern part of USSR.

Next goes Ukraine. It has been said that 90% of Ukrainian people speak Russian perfectly.
They have changed their political orientation recently from Russia to West, but some already are dissappointed that nothing really changed.

Now goes Belarus. It has been said that Belarus is the only dictatorship country in Europe, governed by Lukashenko who is called by most people of Belarus as “Batka” - it would be father in English.

As I mentioned, Russia was the most Northern country in USSR so most of the rest countries are more Southern.
This is a portrait of the dweller from Uzbekistan.

And here goes the lady from now famous Kazakhstan. Real people of Kazakhstan don’t look like Sasha Baron Cohen, but more like Jacky Chan.

The next one is Georgia. It’s new goverment often now quarrels with Russian officials. Russia as an answer bans different products from Georgia.
Most of Georgian economics is based on export to Russia and on people who work and live in Russia and support their families in Georgia.
There is a short funny story about Georgia:
On the lesson in Georgian school teacher asks kids about their parents:
- Dear kids, please tell me what do your parents do for living?
First kids answers:
- My father sells Georgian wine to Russia and we live fine!
- Very good, says teacher, and asked another kid about his parents. The boy replies:
- My father sells fruits and flowers to Russia, we also live very well.
- Ok, very good, and you Vano, what do your parents do?, - asked the teacher another guy.
- My father is an engineer!, - answers Vano.
- Oh poor thing! It’s so pity!, - reacts the teacher.
This story is based on true facts, engineers or teachers average wages in Georgia are about $50 per month or $600 annually.

Azerbajan lies South from Russia.

Lietuva or Litva.
There were three countries in USSR that were always claiming their are occupied by Russians. These are Lietuva, Latvia and Estonia. They are not Southern counties like others but are Western to Russia. Now all of them are the part of European Union.

Moldova or Moldavia is a small country South-West of Russia - close to Romania (many thinks it should be a part of Romania someday). And Romania is the country where are some scenes of Borat’s village were filmed.

This is Latvia. We mentioned Latvia some time ago - people there can write different words on car plates. Such fun for them costs around $3800.

This guys are from Kirgizia or Kirgyzstan. The country lies somewhere near Kazakhstan. The favourite drink of the Kirgiz people is a horse milk. It’s really so.

Tajikistan is a country that shares a border with Afghanistan. Most of heroin shipments to Russia come from Tajikistan. Heroin has become a big part of country budget in Afghanistan. And Russia is a big consumer and also a big transit tunnel to Europe. Through new European members as Latvia or Litva.

Armenia is near Azerbajan. They had an armed quarrel with it for some part of territory and still those countries are not friendly.

Turkmenia is a country that grows a lot of cotton.
The leader of Turkmenia is Turkmen-Bashi - he seems also to be a dictator - he is a constant leader of Turkmen people and he loves gold a lot. There are golden statues and monuments of himself. Also he wrote a book that he calls a divine testament and it is obligatory for every school student to read it. They study it in schools.

Estonia or Eesti has been said the most successful country from all the rest of ex-USSR parts. It’s also the member of European Union and has the most high level of life amongst all other ex-USSR countries. It has been said that from the 2007 or so people of Estonia woule be able to travel to USA without any visas or permits.
All the thoughts on the ex-USSR countries are submitted by Traveller. We build this site from submitted material.

Armenia fights for it’s historycal lands. Been there done that.
Why is everyone smiling and feel happy, apart from Russian guy at the top?
Thanks for the pictures and insights. Fascinating post!
A pretty poor and stereotypic post.
Estonia and the other Baltic states do not “claim” to be occupied, they were clearly occupied and repressed for 50 years. The founding fathers of Estonia and almost all members of the government were either deported to Siberia or shot on the spot, if you think this was a voluntary submission to the USSR you are greatly mistaken.
Can you say something else about Tajikistan besides that it is a transit country for heroin? It may be true but there are other interesting things about it… like that the people there speak Persian, the same language as Iranians, or that they had the highest peak in the USSR (Pik Kommunizm), or something…
But I must congratulate you on highlighting the diversity of the USSR. Good post.
This post looks like it was written by someone in the third grade. But then again, so does just about everything on this site.
By the way, Литва in English is Lithuania, you silly fool.
Estonia - shit
the other Baltic states are shit too.
Yes, please try to stick to historic facts instead of propaganda; Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania indeed were clearly occupied and the whole civilized world recognizes it.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are always occupied. First was the Austrian-whatever Empire; then the Nazis; then URSS; today EU.
Hey, but we have freedom and democracy…
Wonder what the hell anyone want with this countries, apart their very strategic position.
And yes, they’re really beautiful, very warm people.
The Austro-Hungarian never occupied the Baltic States…The Baltic States where first under the control of Poland/Denmark/Sweden while being ruled by German barons. In 1721 Peter the Great added the Baltic area to the Russian empire after successfuly fighting a war against Sweden. For the next two hundered years the Baltic would be under Russian rule. However most of the ruling was done by the Baltic German elite, who also played very important roles in the Tsarist administration, particularily foreign affairs. Most Russian foreign ministers spoke German and French better than Russian. It was until the 1880s under Tsar Alexander III when the Baltic people’s began to demand autonomy due to a growing national awarness and repressive Russofication which forbade the teaching of native languages in schools. The horrors which the First World War unleashed gave the Batlic peoples there opportunity for independence. While it was not their original political goal they took their chance. Tasting independence and the success they experiances compared to a restrictive and oppressive Stalinist regime they properly cherished that independence, as i’m sure most Russian’s would have as well. The rest is the bitter legacy of history: war, occupation and under Stalin practical Genocide. Things got better after Stalin but the memories were traumatic and for these reasons it will be a very long time the Baltics have anything nice to say about Russia.
Hahaha … Occupied by the EU. Damn, it seems the only free countries in Europe are what … Belarus and Moldova? If you are Russian, I actually believe that you might not be joking. Looking at how Russians are completely immersed in state propaganda again, many actually do believe that the EU is some kind of oppressive organization. Then again, the European goals of democracy, human rights, free trade and economic cooperation are kind of fuzzy and hard to grasp for most Russians. Let the good Czar take care of things, right? (shit, hope I don’t get poisoned now …)
Sure that EU is not a piece of cake. Its bureaucracy and stupid legislation are just enormous. But all the benefits being an EU country is probably worse it.
PLD: You’re clearly a dork. Do you even know that the majority of Europeans themselves dispise European Union and think of it as a mob organization (where a cleaning lady earns 3000 euro/month)?? And the British don’t even wanna be a part of Shengen and have euro as a national currency! A lot of people believe EU does more bad than good.
Only pathetic troll countries like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania think they’re going into salvation with joining the EU. The world can always change, my friend, and then we’ll see how you’ll be talking.
dRE, you ignorant fool, EU is an economic union.
and, actually, Baltic states are now by far better off than they ever would have been in mother Russia’s arms.
Well, as I said “Then again, the European goals of democracy, human rights, free trade and economic cooperation are kind of fuzzy and hard to grasp for most Russians”. dRE just illustrated my point nicely, thanks.
You have sometimes mentioned living in Western Europe. Most likely in an EU country, what the hell are you doing there anyway? If life is too shitty in your homeland, at least have the decency not to spout crap about the organization that is, in large part, behind the progress and development of Europe, and thus your own well-being.
Again, you are throwing around ‘facts’ without anything to back them up. Please cite a reliable source for these claims: “the majority of Europeans themselves dispise European Union and think of it as a mob organization”. Thanks.
European Union member states are democracies, that is, the highest power belongs to the people. If the people wish to secede from the EU, they are free to do so, but as of now there are no such developments in any member countries. Perhaps you haven’t figured out the difference of political systems between Russia (de facto autocracy) and civilized European countries (free democracies).
What does Brits not wanting Euro as their national currency have to do with it? I usually don’t argue with people as ignorant as you, but it’s quite amusing really. Let me just remind you to back up those ‘facts’ again, I’m really looking forward to the information you’ll provide.
Jeez, I just LOVE to listen those small states complain and whine after a fifteen fucking years of being left alone - Baltic countries, Poland, Georgia. They still are unhappy, they still want other people`s money to feed them, and they still want their small bloody revenge for being taken care of - like a stupid teenagers towards their parents.
We are tired of you, guys. Go find yourself another master. EU, NATO, USA, whatever. Mind your own business. And stay there.
Hello mate. Please come back we need your comments again.
AHAHAHA … You Russian nationalists make it just too easy. You say: “they still want other people`s money to feed them”. Yeah, now let’s go to the United Nations Development Programme website [udnp.org] and see what it says about Estonia first:
This was in 2000 - six years ago: “After seven years of development aid work in Estonia, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is set to end its programme. The country graduated from aid recipient to donor country.
According to UNDP Resident Representative for Estonia, Patra Lantz, the country has experienced a rapid and successful transition to a market economy, and has been a textbook success story, particularly in its use of information technology for development. ”
Now, for Russia:
“UNDP has been in Russia since 1993, when a corresponding Agreement was signed with the Government of the Russian Federation (See “Basic Documents Section”). UNDP Country Office was established in Russia in August 1997. The main ongoing programmes and projects are being implemented in the following concentration areas:
- Democratic Governance
- Poverty Reduction
- Crisis Prevention and Recovery
- Energy and Environment
- HIV/AIDS”
So, Estonia, and other Baltic states are now donor countries, while Russia is still receiving international aid. As I said, you make it too easy, hahaha. Jeez indeed.
We are tired of Russia as well, the constant propaganda war and incoherent, narrow-minded foreign policy. Sad, given that many Russians are very nice people. Great to know that you have already found your master - the good Czar, and former KGB spy.
(Oh it feels so good.. OMG. AAhh.. Yes.)
What gets me every time is a fantastic inability of those small states to adequateley evaluate their significance and scale compared to the rest of the world. Comparing it to Russia, Estonia takes less space on a map than a Moscow region, and inhabits 5 times less people than Moscow region WITHOUT including Moscow. Now take a money-counting machine and think, what in the world it would take to turn whole Russia into Estonia? (Speaking of UNDP, wich is just one of the many non-governement organisations working here, it`s work is still *ongoing* with, for example, CHINA.)
Speaking of donorship, last year Russia has completely paid it`s international debt to IMF, so it`s also a creditor now.
Speaking of propaganda… well, I dont have to say anything here, because nobody clearly understands what propaganda is. Instead of understanding it, you guys are happy with the thought that everything that “they” say is propaganda, and everything that your governement says to you is not.
gimme a break, Russia is not even a member of IMF yet. there are currently discussions about IMF membership (Georgia tried to stop you recently, remember?).
Yeah, instead of getting the information with my two eyes and two ears I should read and evaluate the heartwarmingly righteous concerns of our dear Eastern neighbour who obviously knows better about my life than myself. Kind of brings a tear to the eye, doesn’t it?
And AFAIK Russia does the most barking anyway. On various European summits Putin always goes “boo-hoo, the evil Balts are discriminating our Russian colonists whom we sent to make Balts Russian during Soviet era and not shoving them the passport they allegedly want so badly, down their throat”. Luckily, despite his efforts, no one takes such statements too seriously, a bully is still a bully.
Of course Russian media is full of propaganda, no question about it. otherwise I wouldn’t shrug helplessly when reading from some Russian paper (AiF, Pravda, Izvestiya, Komsomolskaya Pravda, etc younameit) that I am being discriminated and that our government is an embodiment of Reichstag ‘39, etc. I live here.
Russian media simply either twists its facts heavily toward official state policy, or blatantly lies, and it’s result percentage in lies is near 100%. Actually, all Russian papers should be renamed in a sci-fi manner to suit their articles about Baltic states better.
And then we have to answer stupid questions from Russia about discrimination and SS and nazis, all the bloody time.
Just answer the simple question - do you think propaganda is a LIE or not?
are you trying to discredit me for misinterpretation of term “propaganda”? now that would be subject evasion.
in reply - I don’t care whether propaganda is true or lie. It’s just plain wrong at all levels. People should be able to think on their own.
Iam not trying to discredit you in any way, because I dont give a fuck. Im just curious. Plus im improving mah eanglysh.
Propaganda is`nt just right or wrong, it just IS. In a perfect world people of course should think for themselves, but majority does not want to work their own minds, they are more cofortable with what others say. Or, if they are not comfortable with it, then they shrug helplessly, and spit, and wave their hands around, and say “what a bunch of bullshit”, or they say “fucking propaganda”, or whatever, because what they hear is coming into conflict with what they already told.
Well, in that case, what I see, hear and feel here, differs a lot from what majority of Russian media writes about it. Some real mean fact twisting. And people believe, dRE is a nice example, maybe that kind of Budanov “truth” suits his personality more, I don’t know and don’t care to be honest. Most important thing is that such people wouldn’t make it near the red nuclear button.
I agree with you on your remark about the majority btw. Unfortunately or fortunately, not sure, but it seems so.
About some realities. Yes, here were and are some tensions between Estonian and Russian communities, due to the cultural differences mostly. Typically it goes something like this - Russians are more temperamental than Estonians, to whom that is a bit, uhm, should I say, alien. They simply don’t understand each other sometimes. That is being heavily exagerrated in Russia (I read Russian papers often) - for example, that discrimination (FYI we are a republic with a constitution which forbids discrimination upon nationality, religion etc, and hence such people who discriminate can be sued and have been sued) is the state policy (!!). Typical “discrimination” is - most jobs require at least moderate knowledge of Estonian.
In fact, most of “discrimination” issues around here are because people really need someone to blame. One of most ridiculous examples was some police news on a local site, where some Russian speaking guys attacked an Estonian guy and in the comment everyone was like “[sarcastically] yea, right, of course the Russians are guilty for everything”.
Another thing which is important in Baltic states is the difference of points of view upon 20th century history. Here both Nazi Germany and USSR are considered equally evil. And here’s what I dont really understand - modern Russia says it hasn’t got anything common with USSR, right? Hence the communist terror, especially during Lenin and Stalin era, is considered evil? So why is the fact of rather violent annexation and ceizing of sovereign states during WW2 become okay, not to mention murders and deportations to Siberia, according to recent opinions? Why do most of Russian historians and media try to justify it? (Don’t forget, I read Russian media myself, without an intermediate). And if it’s not okay after all, it should be fairly simple to condemn the deeds of communists (who still have a considerable support and a representation in Russian parliament)? As an analogy, it would be something like Nazi party having a 30% representation in modern Germany. Why there still are so many in Russia who believe that Baltic states voluntarily joined USSR? Why does Russia have more “concern” (based upon altered facts and lies) about “discriminations” of those who haven’t decided which citizenship to choose, rather than own citizens in those countries? Why does Russia refer to “European traditions” as an argument, from which it so badly tries to distantiate on official level? Despite the fact that Russia hadn’t got almost never anything in common with Europe anyway (except for some short periods pre-WW1, especially during the reign of Petr I which was a loooong time ago)? And after everything of that, why are Russians so surprised when their actions are frowned upon? So many questions.
And I, being partly Russian and having a Russian name, have never encountered any discrimination here. I live, I breathe, I pay taxes, I shit in toilet just like everyone else. I am loyal to Estonia, which doesn’t mean I approve everything the government decides. And I can express my thoughts freely without having the fear of being declared dissident. Luckily it doesn’t interfere with everyday life almost at all.
I’m not saying everything is perfect, as people are people and make mistakes.
One of the sickest things I know is mr Mihail Leontyev on the ORT channel, who had, I am not sure, daily or weekly commentary there, right after the evening news? Haven’t heard such bitterness and agressiveness before, mixed with lies, lies and lies. And Russian president seems to think the same way as well. In my opinion, that’s rather warped perspective of “patriotism”.
some kazakh people do look like jakie chan ;-))
“What gets me every time is a fantastic inability of those small states to adequateley evaluate their significance and scale compared to the rest of the world. Comparing it to Russia, Estonia takes less space on a map than a Moscow region, and inhabits 5 times less people than Moscow region”
What? Give me an example here please, I’ve seen no Baltic people on this site with any such tendencies in their comments. Of course the Baltic states are small countries and relatively insignificant in the world arena. But given the size and population of Russia, it’s seen much more as some insignificant periphery than it might be without this bullying, hostile attitude; lack of democracy; and incoherent and unreliable foreign policy. Sorry I have to break the news, but Russia is far from winning the global dick-wagging contest. Yes, it’s tolerated, because of Russia’s oil and gas reserves - it’s called ‘realpolitik’ - but the honeymoon between the West and Russia is long over and few politicians actually take this country very seriously anymore. Whereas these ‘little pathetic troll countries’ (using dRE’s vocabulary) actively participate in international cooperation, be it economic or military (EU, NATO, WTO …). Of course, now you’ll change your tune and start raving about giving up independence and being slaves to the Western powers. I have been getting to know you deluded Russians well thanks to this site.
“what in the world it would take to turn whole Russia into Estonia?”
Blah, blah, blah. Excuses and more excuses. Yes, it’s a large country, but you have a shitload more people and resources too. Try establishing basic freedoms and democracy; and cutting down on the red tape for a start. Russia is not even trying, do you expect anyone to take this whining seriously? The important component here is not money, it’s political will and will of the people.
По улицам Слона водили,
Как видно, напоказ.
Известно, что Слоны в диковинку у нас,
Так за Слоном толпы зевак ходили.
Отколе ни возьмись, навстречу Моська им.
Увидевши Слона, ну на него метаться,
И лаять, и визжать, и рваться;
And here is a brilliant example of typical Russian attitude towards its former slaves, with a Krylov basnya. The bottom line being, that they should respect Russia for it being so big and mighty (the latter may not necessarily be true), forgive any intrusion into their local affairs and be ready to lick its boot at all times. Mania grandiosa at its best.
Too bad though, that even Belarus, which was considered a pro-Russian dictatorship until this time, don’t really want such a bully as an ally anymore.
Look into the mirror more often guys.
Oh, and “respect” here is in Russian context an equivalent of “fear”.
PLD, HCK (obviously one person): Do you even remember who occupied your territories? Stalin. Who was Stalin? He was a Georgian. So please, all your whinings regarding “russians turned us into slaves” address to you fellow “democrat” Suckoshvili. It wasn’t Russians who occupied your countries, and all Russians that live there right now were forced to move there, because that’s how it worked in the Soviet system. So you can’t call these people “occupants”.
p.s. Собаки (балтийские страны) лают, караван (Россия) идет.
but Stalin was the head of CCCR…
ps. why write offending comments in russian, most of the people understand russian anyway.
Yeah, it was Stalin, alone…
Stalin would have been nothing without communist party support, without Red Army, KGB, NKVD.
They just don`t get it. I tried. Forgive me world!
Дре, согласен, вонь до небес. Но про дядю Джо я бы не стал все таки. Грузины тут вообще не при чем я думаю, они тоже огребли так что до сих пор пыль глотают на обочине.
Occupants (Russian soldiers) mostly left Estonian soil on Aug 31st 1994, btw, so yeah, you’re right, for those remaining and barking about “discrimination” there is another term - “colonists”.
Yeah, Stalin was something between Neo, Rambo and Superman, singlehandedly defeating every soldier and sending innocent families to Siberia
Great nazi logic. And oh, he was from Georgia (Osetia btw to be exact), it has to do everything with it, of course. Real useful fact. Good thing he wasn’t Jewish huh?
It appears that “nationality” concerns you more than anyone else. Though, I have to give you credit, you just admitted Estonia was occupied, that’s what most Russians I’ve spoken to are incapable of
They keep babbling about “voluntary” entry and how Estonians should be oh-so-thankful for mother Russia for “liberating” them for nearly 50 years. On official level right now no Russian politician will ever admit that, because legally modern Russia is a successor state to USSR. Which is why “the dogs are barking”.
FYI Russians have lived in Estonia for ages.
And your caravan seems to be heading straight to hell by the way.
some of the crappiest countries in the world. communism really payed off, dont you think? Keep up whit the leftist/communist thingie ;D
I think the Tajik women are one of the most beautiful women in the world. I had found pictures in other sites, and their natural beauty is amazing.
Here is a suggestion for the person who developed this topic: can you put the pictures of each of the ethnic minorities of Russia?
We cannot forget about the people that accepted (or simply did not have the chance to decline) total Russian control. Komis, Karelians, Chuvash, Chechens, Dagestani, Altaic, etc, etc, etc. Show us.
“PLD, HCK (obviously one person)” Ooh, nice textbook example of propaganda tricks - trying to discredit your opponents without contributing anything to intelligent discussion. Neat.
Now, dRE, you still haven’t provided any info I requested to back up your rant above (See #16). You never, never ever come up with any facts, just fling around lots of crap and propaganda lies. You don’t even answer, you are unable to participate in a discussion, like a parrot that has been taught a few sentences. Somebody could write a thesis on Russian nationalists given the material on this site. Must be sad living in a black-and-white world. At least come up with something new, SS is getting old already.
Drawing parallels between Saakashvili and Stalin based on nationality should even insult *your* intelligence. This is pathetic. Ah, excuse me, it’s Suckoshvili. Real mature.
“Do you even remember who occupied your territories”
Yes, I remember. It was a criminal regime going under the name USSR, which raped and pillaged my country for 50 years. At least you aknowledge the fact of occupation.
And yeah, your caravan seems to be sinking in a swamp of narrow-mindedness and corruption, I just hope the dogs have common sense not to get dragged down along with it.
My point was that you can’t blame Russians for the crimes of Stalin and USSR. Under your logic, every single Russian who lives now in the Baltic countries is guilty of occupying your land, even though they didn’t come there because they wanted to, but because it was the Soviet system that always decided who would be sent to work and live where. So you can’t treat these people like you do.
There’s no equal sign between USSR and Russia, and until you understand this simple fact, we won’t make any progress in our relations.
dRE, I’m amazed. The first sensible post by you where you don’t call people names and actually provide some kind of empathy? Now that’s progress
There’s no equal sign between USSR and Russia, and until you understand this simple fact, we won’t make any progress in our relations.
Then stop acting like USSR during Cold War, okay? Please become an economically strong, healthy and satiated partner. Believe me, it works by far better than the “big brother” attitude.
My point was that you can’t blame Russians for the crimes of Stalin and USSR.
Of course it is infinitely wrong to blame an ethnic group for regime’s crimes. No, seriously, it’s wrong.
In fact, no one here blames Russians as an ethnic group. As I have told earlier, the few tensions there are/were are because of cultural differences. And because USSR has brainwashed many people and sometimes they rather stick to what they’ve been hearing for the last 60-70 years rather than see things from a different perspective.
Unfortunately, from here it seems like modern Russia strongly encourages that “old” point of view, e.g. Soviet soldiers should be considered “liberators” (no matter that they stayed for over 50 years after liberation), Estonia voluntarily entered USSR, etc etc. Here’s what I absolutely don’t understand. Russia has suffered more than any other country from USSR regime, and yet is so protective about it? Like, “yeah, the regime killed some 50 million people, but there was something good about it, too“. Sure, the medicine and education were free of charge, and crime rate was lower (the rest of products were quite expensive though). But was it worth millions of lives?
This “old point of view” goes even as far as justifying Stalin’s crimes, because he made USSR a nuclear world power! Built on people’s bones like St Petersburg (which is a beautiful city), but no matter.
I agree on the part that those who have been born here, should have no responsibility. You know, the Bible says something about it too, don’t remember the exact location nor phrase. That’s why when USSR fell apart, they were given the choice - Russian citizenship or learn Estonian language and have Estonian citizenship. Some chose something, some didn’t.
In total, it’s a damn messed up situation - Stalin sent the unwanted colonists here (I hope you *do* agree that was wrong), and they had children. Sending them out would be inhumane, the best thing to do is to integrate (not assimilate!) them into everyday life. Which is what the government tries to do, although I admit, sometimes the efforts haven’t been good enough. The trouble with them is not that they are here legally or illegally, it’s mostly that they are mostly sympathetic to old view I described above. You know, they come out, waving USSR flags, trying to justify their mistakes as “result of discrimination”. Like when an apple accidentally falls onto their head, it must be because they’re Russian. The most absurd example was when the Tallinn mayor banned sale of alcohol in 24h shops at night, and some stupid guy started to panic “waaaaahhh, it’s the discrimination of Russians, who own most of those stores, waaaaahhh”. Absurd huh?
Those who have problems, mostly it’s the case that they’re not even trying to listen or understand what the opponent is saying. This goes for, well, people like you. You are (or were?) sooooo certain that oh those US arselickers, those bloody Balts, little doggies trying to bite my precious homeland, discriminating Russians, glorifying SS, et cetera et cetera. Everything we do is because we so blindly hate the Russians who liberated us and gave us a glimpse of what’s Real Culture like. Although I really doubt you have been here. And hence, when there’s prejudice all the time, how’s the dialogue supposed to happen?
So how exactly are we treating these people?
FYI I am not La Russophobe and I think she is rather hysterical and harsh.
hck - great post… Thanks
A small correction. The immigration wasn’t just during Stalin’s reign, but Hruchev, Brezhnev, Andropov as well.
RE: “some of the crappiest countries in the world. communism really payed off, dont you think? Keep up whit the leftist/communist thingie ;D”

What’s your real name? Matvei?
You Baltic people are doing great, but I think you should stop messing up the Eurovision Song Contest all the time by supporting each other. It’s really annoying!
everyone is doing it. benelux, scandinavia, balkan… it’s just big and sad, and 95% really crappy music.
one question for Estonian people:
you say russian solders are occupants, so for you be a nazi and kill in WW2 jews and gipsies is normal condition???
Actually, im going to say something frightening. Im gonna say the thruth *gasp*. We did not join USSR so yes russians soliders are occupants. We did not join the Nazi Germany. Yeah i know, horrifing right? we actually are estonians. Not nazis, facists or communists. More of a coldblooded capitalists who think of money and how to earn more. We have a saying ” estonians biggest enemy is another estonian”. So yeah, get real world! we are a small nation. Ofcourse we were the ones to get stepped on first and noone realy cares about us. We have to get by ourself. You realy think estonia would have dared to kill jews and gipsies on our own? christ we need every last man cause our population is so small. Why the hell would we kill estonian jews or gipsies? Didnt it cross your mind not once that germany kinda made us do it like they did in every other country they conquerd? Anyway most of us joined the nazi army to hunt down russian soliders behind our border near lake Peipsi and they did it with joy for revenge for all the family members they have lost. How dare you to think estonia had the power to willingly kill jews… If we were so coldblooded wouldnt we have revenge and deport all the russian estonians that settled here or whatever? no! we got over it…now its your turn.

Yes, Russian soldiers were occupants; the oppressed Estonians and killed them.
No, it is not normal to oppress or kill anybody.
Ergo - Russians of the period and Nazis are the same and should be dealt with in a same manner.
russians always trying to get on our way (georgian) but we sweep them away easily :))))
when they gonna fuck off? its over no more soviet bullshit georgia was and will be free country aint nobody fuck with us… when georgian people used to pray in church and write poems russian people were living in forrest with monkeys :)))))) i think they actually fuck with monkeys too :))) TRUTH even russians know that they just dont say its a shame :))) if you are not agree with me read history dumb boy…
but i love russian girls man they are sweet ummmm
1 love for russian girls!!!
because they love us !!!
BYE!
I find it ironic that the Russians resent the independance of countries that were not Russian, that did not want to be Russian and that were forced into the Soviet Union by gun point!
God forbid these countries have some element of self determination!
“Estonia and the other Baltic states do not “claim” to be occupied, they were clearly occupied and repressed for 50 years.”
You poor bastards…. After Stalin’s death nobody was actually repressed, apart from, of course, 3 small countries with no military nor resources significance.
I agree it was a very pressed invitation into Soviet Union in 1940s, but if you are so proud and fond of freedom why didn’t you refuse and die fighting, like the Czechs and the Polish did?
The Baltic nationalists have emerged in the media only in 1990s, when the Union collapsed, and the country was weak. 1o years before that they sat in the dark corner with their eyes shut and holding their breath, because they would be shot or imprisoned for such atrocities they do now. And that would serve them right.
You say Baltic states have no resources or military might, that’s very true.. but look where the Russia is with all it’s military might, all it’s phenomenal resources.. exactly nowhere. The simple truth is, somebody else has to manage you, you are not capable of doing that yourselves.. you couldn’t manage soviet union and now after it has shrunk, you can’t manage that piece of land too.. waste of space?

Your language, grammar and knowledge of Russian forest fauna clearly indicate the level of your intellectual development.
By the way, I wonder where these jokes about Georgians having sexual intercourse with sheep came from…
It must be evil Kremlin propaganda. Yeah… Definitely.
Gotta inform Kavkazcenter.com!
Aaaaaarrrgghhh, russia was never a mother for latvia.. nor was any other country.. It was a polish prime minister that said these famous idiotic words: “Europe is our mother and America is our father..” I am from Latvia and people here were pretty divided when it came to deciding about joining EU.. this is also true for Estonia.. the first country in the world to have an electronic voting system.
P.S. the scary part is that before I could write this I had to write an anti-spam word in a box above, guess what the word was? It was “moscow”.. no, Im not joking..
“the first country in the world to have an electronic voting system.”
Shut up your dirty and eurocentric mouth,I’m from Brazil and we invented the eletronic voting system!! We have this since the dictatorship is over - about 1985.And this eletronic system was used also for presidential elections,in 1990(the Baltic countries are still part of USSR).Brazil’s elections are an example of democracy for all the world.I vote myself on an eletronic voting machine last year. And let me tell you:the chances of anyone can change the results, like in some countries as USA and Russia, is zero.
interesting information for me, nice presentation, myself from India
“what in the world it would take to turn whole Russia into Estonia?”
How about you give some of the Russian land to Estonia
you can start with the eastern parts of the current Russia like “petseri” and area north of Narva, that your people promised us at the end of WW2 with the “Tartu Peace Treaty” back in 1920
..it’s funny how suddenly Russian government doesn’t remember anything about it, though the documents are clearly signed by ex Russian leaders
WTF guys, seriously, what you are doing is considered a theft
i didn’t like the thing you said on romania, that borat was filmed partially in romania. thatțs true, but irrelevant. and i hope that moldova will be some day a part of romania. half of its citizens have also romanian citizenship.
btw, i used to not like russia or russians for historical reasons, but one day i found this site and i keep on visiting it once a week, probably. you’re doing a great job ’cause i found that we are not that different and the hatred i used to feel started to melt. that’s interesting. russia is interesting.
