Hermetic Art

Weird but nice art by Alex Andreev, Russian artist. He personally calls his style “Hermetic” whatever it could mean it’s worth taking a look.

Good job Mr Pakistan. Is the title because you won a competition?
Anyway - those pics are really good. Some of them remind me of Roger Dean - who did the album covers for the band Yes in the 70’s.
They are much better than the knitted hares, which I thought were crap.
OMG Russian art sorely lacks a sense of artistic realism
Gosh, are you always this positive and well-informed?
Nice find. Strange and oddly beautiful.
This guy smoked a lot of weed. I can see it.
Bit of an insult to his imagination. These are amazing though, remind me of Dali
Not bad. Not bad at all. Dali overtones are a bit too strong for my taste, though (and I like Dali, mind you), but you can tell that the atmosphere is different. Subject, too: what would be the proper term - “surrealist steampunk”, I guess?
Over-intellectualization. Oh you meant the art work.! My bad.
WTF Dali(kinda) did drugs and so many artist with this type of talents. Im pretty sure this guy does drugs(salvia, shrooms, acid, peyote, etc, etc,..)
nevertheless, amazing! out of this world
Good art
Maybe I should go to Zeleznovodzk [ Железноводск ] there is a specialist there in the hospital he even erected big monument for enema in front of his hospital !!
http://www.rtl.nl/components/actueel/rtlnieuws/site_breed/dossiers/rtl-gadgets/images/Klysma800.jpg
Enema = klysma in russian, might help, all russians have several at home to help them cope with constipation due to eating potatoes and cabbage all the time. And salads with mayonnaise as main ingredient!! Vodka helps but not enough, need urgent help, blood, pain.
I like it.
I really love this half-life 2-style afternoon-mood! Мне очень нравятся эти картини!
Awesome!
OMA! What a wild imagination! Please, English Russia, contact the artist on my behalf and ask for the special tobacco blend used before work.
Think of the imaginative ways I could develop for jihad if I had some of that wonderful thought-provoking blend.
Anxiously awaiting the recipe,
M. Ahmadinejad
Promoter of artistic jihad
Whatever he smokes, it´s bad for him.
This is both stupid and gay. It is also the most predictible type of art and is mostly enjoyed by drug addicts and lazy people.
And your contribution to art is this comment?
Ignorance and stupidity is an art form, he’s contributing more than we’ll ever know.
But then again, this IS pretty much standard stuff spread all over the internet - re-hashed modernist(a bit of every movement and genre) art so to say.
I do like some of them, interesting concepts.
More like this for EnglishRussia, please!
Brilliant!
yeah, this infects with half-life apocalyptic mood
Half-life is not the peak of apocalyptic art, people, get over it. Besides these are more sci-fi than apocalyptic.
As for the rest of you:
And Dali is lame, showy BS art to be honest. These conceptual pieces are a tad better.
Amazing. I’d love to see a FPS/RPG/adventure game based on this art. It would be like combining the best parts of Half-Life 2, Fallout 3 and Bioshock with touch of Salvador Dali and Hayao Miyazaki. In other words: KICK ASS AWESOMENESS.
these illustrations are made by the author for Stanislaw Lem’s fiction:

you can translate russian text with google
WOAH! I totally love this guy’s artwork! There are NO WORDS for this art! <333
MORE PLEASE!
You can see more at alexandreev.livejournal.com
The artist creates illustrations mainly for Stanislaw Lem’s works, such as Eden and The Invincible.
WOW! awesome 10/10
Now these pics are worth downloading.
The artist is in the wrong profession, he has some brillant to contribute, but it is not in art
Well sir, you need time to collect your thoughts, get it all together so to speak. Don’t resist the attendants, talk freely with the therapists. It’s all for your own good, this time to think. Everything will be all right, be calm, it will all work out.
Later you will understand that for your own mental health, you must give up that which you call your ‘ART’. It isn’t. Niether is Dali’s, as he became/changed himself to be increasingly unhinged. You know about that because you’re following his artistic lead, eh? So give that up. Then you’ll have a life. Maybe.
OH GOD!!!! WONDERFUL!!!!
Im in awe
Impressive!
Respect & uvazhuha!
Awesom stuff! love it!
You lack any sense of realism.
Excellent work the artist gives the feel they are tangible, almost real. Even his monochrome work has lovely forms and is almost touchable.
Ignore the morons like Gerry who try to say that it’s not art, he’ll probably argue that the likes of the Mona Lisa or maybe the Hay Wain is real art but to be honest what’s so brilliant about sitting someone in front of you and copying them if I were to be looking for a picture to hang on my wall of a woman looking at me or maybe some people loading a hay cart, then I would pull out my trusty old brownie box and snap away.
The artist is not just copying what’s in front of him but bringing out what’s inside of him and that is quite breathtaking. Keep it up my son keep it up.
From a new admirer
I´ll second that, atheos! I think the more sci-fi ones are awesome - especially the one of the city on the cliff! Also, the airplane stuck in cobweb is really thought-provoking.
I guess I will have to re-read the Lem´s novels to get the point. The images may be good illustrations, but when presented without the context, they indeed look like Yes album covers.
BTW, the attention whore Dali sucks. I prefer e.g. Magritte or Ernst when it comes to surrealism.
Very interesting and creative visions. Great perspective on everyday objects you may see.
For all you bums out there talking about drugs, STFU and do something your self. There’s nothing worse then dumb quick remarks to justify you negativity and your own lack of talent. Just because something is different doesn’t mean you have to take drugs for it, such a closed minded view for fucks sake. So sftu and try to enjoy your life? ok thanx bye!
Nice))) but I don’t wanna live in their world)))
wooow !!!
very similar to Beksinski
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=beksinski&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=AlHqSZjsKZ28tgPzubDsAQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
Zdzislaw Beksinski is far more impressive and powerful, but I agree. The artist of these pieces seems to be inspired by many different modernist and post-modernist masters and current popular concept artists (which are also inspired by the [post]modernists, heh).
http://beksinski.pl/
Oh come on,
This guy has been inspired by a lot different artists, obviously - not just the older masters (Beksinski, Magritte, Dali, etc), but also the more common conceptual artists (who are also inspired by the ones I already mentioned).
great.;
very nice
BAD ASS………….. this guy is creating worlds.
Hmm picture 45 is inspired by The Cube movie.

Fantastic imagination. How anyone could call this “predictable art” I have no idea! I concur with the urge to start writing sci fi, though may content with reading at the moment. I’m not nearly as talented in my imaginings as this guy. Kudos sir!

now this is an artist that should be making our RPGs
Just like a computer game. AMAZING.
Nice Image isn’t it? Thanks.
CreATIVE Images… Wow..!!
These pictures look like a bad dream
4 words to describe - Fear, sky, lost and future, EVERY picture containts all of the four elements.
I agree with most of what you say, though some of these could very well be in the past. For instance, picture 6, 10, and 30, seem to be screaming that they were in a parallel past of our own world. Number 30 would be the cities if steam power had prevailed and had become more advanced. Obviously, some pictures do portray modern day to futuristic qualities, for instance, 35-39.
Some very nice images there.
‘Hermetic’ means something that not a lot of people could undestand. There’s also hermetic literature.
His art is a fine example of what digital art should be.
I like it. Its like he gave form to all the weird shit you see in your dreams.
Actually, this really reminded me of Studio Ghibli. I’m surprised nobody else mentioned this. Well, more specifically, it relates to “Castles in the Sky.” Those who have watched it should know what I mean (and if you haven’t watched it, I urge you to; an amazing movie, it was!) Of course, I’m not saying these pictures are exact replicas of Studio Ghibli, because they aren’t. Its just the general concepts of massive landforms and hoverships and hovering massive landforms… which I may add are very, VERY interesting concepts… very fascinating….
These are amazing images. I love the floating terrain, with bikers approaching a suspended bridge. Awesome!

Alex is great. I’ve wrote a little article about him in my blog too. I’m proud that Russia has great young surrealists.
