It’s true. The light comes from a reaction in the gas which is inside the lamp. The reaction can be caused either by directly applying electricity, or simply by a strong electromagnetic field, such as a radio-wave emitter close by.

This technology is versatile and may be used for more than one thing. I used it in an innovative treatment program for handicapped and invalid patients.
The problem was: late at night in hospital wards and rest homes, patients and residents would aggravate the night duty nurses with requests for every imaginable thing, such as water, pain killers, trips to the WC, scratching hard to reach places, etc. The nurses were in such demand, non-stop, that they were unable to watch the Mexican Telenovelas so popular among them.
So, I ordered the insertion of objects similar in size and shape to the light in photo # 2, but with similar vibrational characteristics as certain sex toys, up the anus and/or vagina of bed-ridden patients. Then, during times when they were screaming in pain, aggravating the nurses, or simply experiencing extreme boredom, the nurses could simply press a button on a console at the nurse’s station, activate the remote-controlled device, and send soothing, rhythmic, sensuous and relaxing massages to the patients.
So far the program has been successful, although the devices are often stolen, either by relatives for home use, ro by nurses to enjoy while watching their favorite Telenovela.

These walkies-talkies have maximum power 5W, much more than mobile phones. And they operate in continuous power mode, so energy is enough to turn on fluorescent lamps.
In my job such transmitters create disturbance to computer speakers from many meters away!

1 walkiie-talkie is NOT operates in constant transmitting mode, while cellphones - does.
note :in THAT case more significant is DISTANCE between tranmitter and bulb.

Well, I just tried this with a dual band HT, 5 watts out, on the 2 meter band and 70cm band, neither at 5 watts out would do anything with the bulb/s I tried.
