One to a Billion

Russian bullet

Those are two bullets, French and Russian collided in the air, back at 1854 during the war in Russia at Crimea peninsula. People say that a probability odds for this to happen is one to a billion, and to find such 150 years laters was also a great luck.

that is an amazing find. wonder what happened to the two soldiers who’s bullets these were.

They probably never knew and will never know…
…i find it quit a bit emotional and symbolic. I just don’t know what symbol it could stand for…

oh and one to a billion is more common than winning the swiss lottery ;-)

        • Dennis says:

I have to agree with you that it is both emotional and symbolic. maybe its symbolic in ironic kinda way. with 2 soldiers trying to shoot each other and the bullets colliding. I dunno. but that’s why I was wondering what might have happened to them, I know we will never know. but its just an interesting thought. now I’m just waiting to see what Miss India possible has to say about this and how can she turn 2 bullets colliding into OMG Russia is so poor.

      • Arcadenix says:

I suppose they are dead now. :-)

    4. OMG Russia is very poor country, people just collecting metal in the streets to just buy another bottle of vodka :-(

I think I remember seeing something like this in a museum about the Battle of Gettysburg from the American Civil War in 1863. But still this is really amazing!

      • Eric3 says:

I know what you’re referring to; I remember seeing the same thing in a Gettysburg display case: two bullets fused together following a midair collision, though not quite as head-on as these were.

    6. w says:

      This is easy to do,

Shoot the 2 bullets at wall, pick up bullets, glue them together then post all over the internet for great praise of internet people.

    7. [...] por Jordi Guzman en Febrero 23, 2009 Increible lo que estas imagenes nos muestran. Según dicen en English Russia son dos balas que impactaron casi exactamente una contra la otra segun la dirección que llevaban. [...]

Very cool, i bet there arent many in the world like it.
it would make an excellent good luck charm.

    10. I am not buying the story. First, the bullets would have to collide center-to-center on the exactly opposite trajectories to produce the thingie shown. Given that a bullet trajectory is parabolic (especially true for the slow-moving 0.70 cal bullets in military use at that time), not very likely.

Second and most important: both of the bullets involved are cylindroconical with three cannelures, apparently of Tamisier 1841 pattern. That’s a French design, as Russians used M-1845 smoothbore percussion muskets. The majority of Brits were armed with a comparable Pattern 1842 smoothbore muskets, with a handful of 1853 Enfields thrown in. I can accept French firing on French by accident, however unlikely. I can accept bullets hitting one another in the midair. What I can’t accept, is the combination of the two highly unlikely events.

      Conclusion: FAKE! :D

hmm i saw two bullets stuck one in another two times: one in ww2 museum located in my former school and second - in ww1-2 museum in Crimea.
Just think: two trajectories intersecting in one point instead of a line and the right time interval is even smaller. Also what’s the point in shooting in perpendicular directions?
Oh, and stealing enemy’s weapons has always been a heroic deed in Russia since there’s always lack of them
