This is what Putin wants the people to drive instead of cheap 2nd hand reliable Japanese cars. [Import taxes were increased with 200 %, an attempt to protect the local manufacturers from competetion] No surprise the people start demonstrating.

He himself and all DUMA members of course drive Mercedes and BMW. No lada, volga’s or Yugo’s. Not even KamaZ, which is very good !

      • Japanese cars may be really reliable, but here is another reason. Here in Japan, people are not willing to buy the used cars, if a) the car is more than 6 years old, or b) the mileage is more than 60,000km…(unless there is a special reason.. like some people want some old models like VW Bug or something). So we’ve got so many used cars which are amazingly affrodable, but still run really great. They are exported not only to Russia, but to Philipines, sometimes to Thailand, and even to UK!

How did this truck end up in Russia as it originated from a Vancouver BC suburb?

      • Given the sorry state of the Russian auto industry, even an old tired International still shows better fuel economy, breaks less often, provides more driver comfort, hauls more and pollutes less than the local fare, like KamAZ. Probably cheaper to buy and maintain, too, even after factoring in transport costs and duties.

        • gerald says:

in regards to the old international cabover, it was WTF?

but after the fall of the soviets a lot of N.A. machinery went ‘russian’. at the equipment dealership i worked at years ago we prepped a kawasaki front end loader for shipment to russia. a lot of old iron went there from here

    8. SSSR says:

In soviet Russia cars drive you.

    9. KBR says:

I think that some cars can be repaired, and will drive just fine. Spare parts all over the place. Pitty, but hey not my problem…

    10. ff6m says:

What is a Volvo 240 doing in there?! That’s just sad.

Here some new cars going via Finland to Russia. Few days ago there were over 30km trucs in single line and drivers have to wait 5 days to get over Russian border. Unbelievable!

    14. finik says:

on my way to murmansk saw a kamaz, which took both lanes as the toein hadn´t exactly been adjusted. so don´t know about the quality of them. though, what surprises me is indeed that truck from vancouver; stupid you may be, but importing an american car??!

That blue “SUV” it’s an ARO … romanian car …

    19. Pholostan says:

You see those white numbers on the cars? Is’s a scrapheap, pure and simple. I could find lots of rusted out hulks like that on any scrapheap anywhere on earth. Nice photos though.

    20. Kelly says:

Wow, the scrap and recycle pickers in Detroit and Cleveland would love this! The homeless could live like kings on the recycling cash.
