The Tusk Art

Russian mamoth's tusks used for art 1

Mammoths are already dead for centuries, and most of their remains are being found in the deep frozen soil of Siberian regions. Just some of them are used for scientific research, thousands more are being used by locals for carving. The whole carving art has been formed for many years of finding those mammoth remains. They don’t have ivory but plenty of this prehistoric material so it has become good substitute for the carving craft.

      First!

Amazing work! I wonder how they do the big pieces. They must “glue” different parts together

      Mammoths, locals? WTF…

Yeah, siberian locals have nothing better to do other than carving jesuses, crocodiles, greco-roman like art, and other shit they are not even aware of out of mammoth bones.

Very beautiful indeed - but I’d prefer the mammoth tusks (and the rest of their skeletons) to be left alone, maybe put on exhibition (yes, I know that there are thousands). After all, they’ve been extinct for thousands of years. Not even Christianity is old enough to justify carving its symbols into their tusks.

ive also heard of Russians making soup out of the better preserved ones. i used to know a poem about that, but i cant remember it.

but i like the art. we have so many on exhibit, that there is not shortage of bodies for scientific and museum purposes, so i think its fine.
